The following post in Attitudes in Nightclubs got me thinking.

On a serious note though. I presume when you say nightclubs, you mean Redz or 21s or some swanky crapper like those. Why bother going to nightclubs if you expect this treatment?

On that note, where's a decent place?

Open fairly late. No cover charge. Approachable people who don't tell you to "F@ck off" for saying hello.

Or to put it another way: The continental Europeans working in pubs, clubs, restaurants, wherever. You're probably as strapped for cash as I am. Where do you go when you go out?

I never pay into a pub or late bar. I dont understand the concept of paying for the privilege of paying an entry fee to allow you spend your money inside.

    Continetnal Europe...?

The difference between Ireland and continental Europe is voting with feet.

Irish - moan, pay in, moan
    Europe - moan, walk away

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Id never do it either. Im damn damn damn opposed to paying money before Ive a chance to see if its any good.

The best pubs/bars do not charge in. FACT.

Don't think i know of any pub that charges for entry. Maybe they do in some of the swankier places but theyre usually not worth the bother. One of the best pubs ibn Cork is An Bróg. Really relaxed and the people are sound out. Mainly student pub too which rocks.

    Yup!!

A pub/club that I really enjoy and has a great atmosphere is DeBruns in Tullamore, its a lovely spot and no cover charge!

Theres a good few decent pubs that you dont have to pay into, Bernard Shaws and Anseo spring to mind.

Twisted Pepper club opening soon on abbeyt street will be deadly.

Theres clubs where people go for the music and meet up with their mates or theres clubs where people go to get drunk and pull.

I am of the ilk of the former group - i decide on a club based on the music/dj/promoter not how cheap the drinks are or how likely i am to pull. Why anyone would go to these places I just dont know!

In Cork and in no particular order:

The Crane Lane - Phoenix Street

The Mutton Lane - St. Patrick Street

The Oval - South Main Street/Maylor Street

    Nancy Spains - Barrack Street

Funnily enough the first three are all run by the same guy :D

Lots of focus on the "Open fairly late. No cover charge." bit

    but what about the

"Approachable people who don't tell you to "F@ck off" for saying hello.

Ah the foxhunter isnt so bad now its very quiet there over the past three months.

the off licence if its still open cause the price of drink is shocking

The Roost in Maynooth is open late with disco bar / music and no cover.
    There's also Brady's  and O'Neill's.

geoffs, electric avenue and the kasbar in waterford are decent enough and free (although e.a. charges for some of the bigger acts ie. mercury rev who are playing soon). rubys lounge and harveys can be alright the odd time

well i dont know if it helps but i just found out o neills on suffock street stays open to 2.30 and thats free in.

christ knows what clientelle you'd get though as it seems to vary alot but i have ran into a fairly eclectic european mix there.

fox hunters treated me fine when i went there and the women were approachable but TBH it a pain in the arse to get home from.

i wouldnt go near a club from now on though as with the new laws whats the fecking point? much easier to stick to a late bar now and you can actually chat the girl up there.

The Church just off Henry Street (jervis end) is decent enough
Nice place, club downstairs, huge beer garden and free in all times

seems to have a more continental clientel though so if your looking for irish lasses you may be spread thin
