    ok, brief history

working for one of the large it companies (ye all know it) been there a year next month. Unfortunately during my time here i've spent a number of those months without a project. I was targetted as been a "specialist" in a certain area, where i would hear of a role opening up one week, next week no word at all. I've ended knowing all of the HR team on a first name basis and they know me. This continued from about feb til about june, little bits here and there. Now dont get me wrong i didnt mind this "time off" but i always had this feeling that this would come back to bite me later and i would be the one suffering. Come June got onto a decent role, knew it was only short term but at least it was something. But in total ive only been working 50/60% of the time. What is really disappointing was that i was pulled from one project since i was told that a project in one of the areas that they wanted me for was starting soon. That never materialised at all.

I aint bigging myself up but ive seen all my reviews for each role and they have all been good, i passed my probation no problem. In all but one of the 8 areas you get marked on i got 5 out of 5, and 4 in the other one.

Now its review time, and i've been told that since i havent been working enough that my rating is below and that i have to go on a improvement plan. No raise either, even though my colleagues who got average get a 7% increase. As i said i had a feeling this would come but i really thought that there would be some allowance for me since it was through no fault of my own that i am in this situaition. Its not the money that hurts the most, its the fact that this review will probably be on my record for good and i feel its a year wasted. I thought i would be given 2/3% and to be honest i would have accepted that. But i feel i have been really unfairly treated and not been marked for the work i did but the work i never had the opportunity to do.

Im gutted, i really wanted to work for this company, actually taking a slight decrease in my wages to join here because I thought that this was the better opportunity long term.

Now i dont feel like i have any option to move on, already updated my cv and began looking. Its just that times are tough in the it sector and cant afford to quit without getting something else first. I dont want to be here at the same level, same pay, poor record (through no fault of my own)

i just had to rant to someone. thanks

I would start to document all your attempts at finding work within the company. This means speaking to the HR people via email about possible upcoming projects and so on - especially that one that you got pulled off of another project that then didn't even materialize.

Ask them to go over with you why your review is so bad, so that you can "better understand it". Then, bring up any documentation you DO have that proves that your poor scores aren't your fault.
