Gorey to Dublin IFSC by Car or Train ?

Hi, I'm moving to Gorey soon and will be living close to the train station, I work in the IFSC so would appreciate anyone's advice on whether or not to drive it daily or to take the train, there is a trian that leaves at 06:45, getting in for 08:50 which could work, does anyone know if this train is regular or often late.

Alternatively, should I drive, the N11 has the new bypass, but I have not a clue how long the drive would take in rush hour ? Or maybe a park and ride with the Luas or DART or something, any pointers or opinions would be great ta, thanks all in advance......

The DART from Bray would take approximately 40-45 minutes from Bray. I'm not sure how long from Greystones (maybe 55mins) but a drive to Greystones and then catch the DART from there might be a more regular service than getting a mainline train.
It gives you a bit more leeway in the morning and evening too insofar as you're not totally dependent on catching one particular train

Or the LUAS from sandyford/dundrum. It takes approximately 1 hour from Gorey to that part of the M50. I imagine you'd miss most of the traffic and again you wouldn't be getting one specific train so if you're a few mins late leaving the house you won't have to wait an hour for the next one. I'd look into parking costs at dundrum LUAS and at the DART as the previous poster said. Another avantage of park and ride is that when you're on the way home you don't have to wait for a (probably infrequent) train service, and if you have to work late, your commute is largely unaffected. I imagine after 5 or 6pm the gorey train becomes less frequent.

Do factor in the cost of driving that distance every day though. I work it out at about €4-€5 in petrol (very rough estimate!) to get to Gorey from Dublin, so straight away thats €40-€50 a week for you...plus park and ride fees. Weigh the convenience of driving and using park/ride against the price of the train ticket and make your decision. Or try both and see which is better!

EDIT Personally, I like the idea of the DART from Greystones. Its about 40 mins i'd say from Gorey to there.

Bear in mind however that the LUAS in Sandyford stops at Stephen's Green and there is then a 15-20min walk from there down to the IFSC. Nice in the summer but on a cold wet January morning? No thanks. The DART in Connolly will pretty much drop you to the door.

There is a large park and ride adjacent to Greystones DART station which is free though I can't be sure as to how quickly it fills (Any locals here to testify on same?). The LUAS isn't a great option given a 15 minute walk from the Green and your additional commute into Sandyford; it does fill up from early and your risk of not getting parked at all is high.

The P&R is Greystones is rarely full and I've never had an issue getting a spot on the odd occasion that I've had to use it.

The Gorey train is quite reliable and any delays are usually down to problems between Greystones & Bray.

The only issue is that IE seem to be in the habit putting on 4 carriage trains in the evening, making for a very uncomfortable journey home. I reckon they'd easily fill a 6 or 8 carriage service.

Is that staying free with IE's new parking charges going in?

It is a county council parking facility so Irish Rail wouldn't be able to charge on it.

    Danny,

did you get sorted with the commute? I've been driving it for 3 months Gorey to Tallaght, Monday to Friday - leaving about 6.15am, getting in about 7.30 ish.

I'm thinking about organising a car pool to beat the savage monthly petrol bill.
Do you know anyone who'd be interested in this?

    ta

Gorey on hold at the mo and also will be changing job shortly as contract is running out. Interesting you say Tallaght as I was looking at a job there yesterday and was thinking, it'd be too far for sure....How much is your commute fuel bill a bill ?? When I move down, I'll contact gaain about the carpooling for sure.

    Cheers

Fuel bill is about €250 a month. That's for a small engine car. 1.1l.

    cheers

    Hi Danny,

We leave gorey at around 7.15 am to start work in Sandyford at 8.30am, and we head home around 5pm. We also finish around 4pm on Fridays

At the moment, I drive one week and another guy drives the next, so we have split the petrol costs by 50% already. Do you think these hours would site you?

    Hello
I'm a mature student attending college in Blackrock. I would be interested in sharing petrol costs as far as Sandyford as there is a bus that I can take from there to B'rock.
