I've spent the last two days trying to find out the CSS for a open comp I played a week ago today, I rang the club yesterday to be told they would be available online by 4pm, they are still not up, nor has it been posted to Golfnet. How are we supposed to insure we play to the correct hcap? Should there not be a standard expected across all clubs, for instance, that within a day or two all results and info should be available?

Always air on the side of caution and cut yourself properly.

If SSS is 72 and you shoot 71, cut yourself at least one unit - if when CSS is known you can readjust.

You can always play off a lower handicap - but higher one will DQ

Slumped is right, you don't have to always wait for the club to act, if you're playing again before the official paperwork is donw you need to adjust your handicap yourself for the competition.

I guess clubs will be slower to update at this time of the year.

The thing was I was moving my home club to a new club and needed to have all outstanding scores in at my existing club before they issued a Hcap cert. Ended up passing on the url for the results page to the Hcap secretary. He used SSS as CSS was not published and SSS and CSS had been the same for comps before and after the date.
My point was it shouldn't be so much trouble to sort this out, if this info was published in a reasonable time. Incidently the CSS in still not on the results page.

IMO you should be able to go with the CSS on the card until such time as the away club send back the card, or do an online update.
