Banned books and newspapers

Was aimlessly wandering through wikipedia and out of sheer boredom ended up following this link of a list of banned publications in Ireland.(Yes I have way too much time on my hands.)

    http://www.justice.ie/en/JELR/Pages/Register_of_prohibited_publications

I didn't actually think that in 2008 there would be any books that would need to be banned, but apparently there's loads. (including the classics 'A Moist Urge' and 'Sasha Gets Ravaged' :D)

Anyway, what surprised me most was that there's loads of banned magazines and newspapers. Most seem to be from the 50's and 60's so I'd guess are long out of existence but the News of the World is in there, as is Esquire. There's no date of expiration so I'd guess they're still banned? But surely no-ones enforcing them?

Also pretty shocking to see that there are also 8 books currently banned because they offer advice on abortions. Regardless of your opinion on the matter, surely censoring books offering medical advice is way over the top?

Ok so a lot are obviously sex books/abortion promoting but why are all the detective/crime books banned? e.g. "Best True Fact Detective"

Is it simply that they were banned then and haven't been unbanned since cos they're simply out of print?

EQ banned in Ireland? It's a men's fashion mag, with articles that are far from risque or earth shaking. This must be a mistake?

If I've told you once, I've told you a million times, if you want a moist surge, send me a PM, I'll get it here and post it over.

Or anything else for that matter :D

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I seem to recall that it only took two or so complaints to get a publication banned - so that's how "Playboy" disappeared years ago. I guess the publishers could appeal at a later date, but probably aren't bothered.

Books prohibited on the grounds that they were indecent or obscene and/or that they advocate the procurement of abortion or miscarriage or the use of any method, treatment or appliance for the purpose of such procurement.

    SEND ME THOSE BOOKS!:D

I notice that no obscene books have been banned since 1998 which means that by 2010 at the latest these books will all be fair game. I'm looking especially forward to the 15th of October this year when I can purchase my very own copy of Anus. :D

Also Playboy is not banned but Playgirl is; sexism ftw!

hah, playgirl is banned but not playboy. Sheesh, Ireland was mighty backward during the 20th Century.

Playboy was only unbanned in 1995/96. It still makes me laugh/cry to think that the sale of condoms wasn't deregulated here until ****ing 1993!
