Cyclist Personal Issue

I’m going to raise something which isn’t regularly discussed in cycling circles which i think affects the majority of cyclists throughout Ireland and internationally. I guess it’s something most people are embarrassed about and at some point in their lives have affected them negatively in some capacity. I've tried trawling through the net to search for some solutions to this problem yet there’s not even a murmur. I can only assume people are trying to brush this issue under the carpet, ignore it like an in-law.

Heres a scenario im sure people can relate to:
You’re at the bike rack in work or college. You often run into the same people due to timetables being similar. Theres a girl locking her bike. You catch each other’s eyes and smile. You remove your helmet and proceed to lock your bike. You catch each other’s eyes again and instead of that friendly smile again you get a look of horror mixed with absolute disgust. She walks away. You scratch your head and head to the office puzzled at what just happened. You catch a glimpse of your own reflection in a window. It starts to make sense... You've got Helmet Hair !!

So whats the solution ? I fired of emails to wiggle and chainreactioncycles and some others but they were unhelpful. They had no products to combat this illness, this disease... Then a beacon of light, a ray of hope.

So i decided to test the poduct out after much hassle looking for it.

The Claim: Well its in french so from the ad i gather it combats helmet hair claiming to be "indestructible"!! "For bounce-back style, Wind, Humidity and jumper resistant". A french friend also informed me that they mention in the event of a nuclear fallout your hair will remain styled and in pristine shape. Brilliant

The test: 50km cycle. Give myself a hedgehog/spiked hair style and examine before and After pictures.

    Before

Ill post the after in 2hours time... watch this space

    After
    5514962698a8753615517l.jpg

    Conclusion
Well as you can clearly see the mircale cure just wasnt to be. So much for Extreme hold and elastic resistance. I dunno.. im at a lost really. I can handle the full lyrca gear but this is just a step too far. Im seriously considering just packing this business in altogether. I may aswell put my bike up on adverts.ie

*Disclaimer: Story is a fabrication and nothing i say throughout the thread should be taken seriously

Helmet hair is even worse if you're a girl with mid length kind of longish hair... not very glamorous ... plus the helmet embedded to your forehead, making you look like a Klingon out of star trek ...

Don't take off the helmet? ;)

Have you considered simply lopping it all off? Think of it as streamlining.

There's no need for haircuts like that in this day and age anyway.

well i recommend just shaving the lot off, be done with it. you've been a slave to the hair grooming industry for long enough. frankly, you're not worth it. and the savings in hair-gel alone will amount to the equivalent of some nice Zipps within the year (judging by your before photo). my only caveat would be to remember a cap or sunscreen on sunny days; that well ventilated helmet can leave the otherwise sleek bonce somewhat stripey - a condition that cannot be remedied with a comb. i know whereof i speak.

trying to think laterally here .... what about one of those bandanas or buffs that motorcyclists put on under their thumping great helmets...at least it would make that initial "reveal" a bit less of a mad hairy surprise

Am I the only one who thought the hair looked better in the "before" picture?

yes i think thats the whole point to show that the gel stopped working after 2 hours.

Hair looks better in the before picture, no doubt. I'd be more worried about the big white splotch it seems to cause on his face.

Have to admit, this is one of my pet peeves about cycling, you never look respectable afterwards! Sweating, messy hair, runny nose..

I've started to try and back off when I'm arriving into my destination's area - bit of a warm down - and I've noticed a bit of a difference overall, but the wind still wrecks hair! I'm considering getting one of those new d30 beanies so that I can just keep it on and hid it!

And yes, I've done the whole shave the head thing and it's the perfect solution (you don't sweat as much either) but I don't think I can pull it off no more!

    Woe is me..
