get on motorcheck.ie and put in
    659hza
    659hzb
    659hzc

etc until you reach your model and colour. at worst it'll take 26 tries :)

If the car was not recorded as "scrapped" before 1993 it should be on www.cartell.ie Do the free check using 659 hza, 659 hzb, 659 hzc... until you get a match

    edit: beaten to it!

If its a dublin car it would prob be C D or E ie: HZC(unlikely I think)HZD or HZE.
This is only based on my memories of back then ,I had a 78 Alfasud that was
FZE and a 78 Kadett that was KZE or were they 79-having doubts now !
    Hope its some help anyway.
By the way what is it You bought ?

    You say 659 HZ?
In 78 it could only be a Dublin registration ***NZC TO ***YZC,or,***AZD TO ***YZD,or ***AZE TO ***IZE,no other county had a numbers first allocation with a Z in the letters being used at that time.As in 123xxx

so it could only be 659 HZD,or 659 HZE,as far as i can work it out to.Neither reg comes up on cartell though,so its been off the road for along time if i am right with this...
    Hope this helps

You can't come around here telling us you have a car from 1978 that's original Irish and not post up a pic of it, or even tell us what it is???

If you have a tax disc at all then bring it to the tax office. They should be able to track the serial number on it.

Can they do that with a 1970's tax disc? Even if they could, I doubt that the overworked darlings in the tax office would want to...

It has been known for tax discs to be stolen from bike disc holders, so maybe the owner taxed the vehicle but didn't put the disc onto the bike? Just a thought!

thats why I think it was only taxed once, it was still on the bike after 30 years!

I had a 78 Bultaco Enduro bike that was only taxed for a couple of years.
It was one of several Bultacos used by Bord na Mona staff to drive around their turf cutting operations. AFAIK, when they sold it, it was used for competitions and not taxed. I had the old brown tax book for it.

Actually I still have an old Bultaco trials bike dissembled in the shed which I doubt I'll ever get around to re building. Bultacos were great old bikes, I had loads of them back in the day, Sherpa's, Alpinas and a Pursang Moto x bike which was an animal! Sorry to go ot. Just reminiscing.

    It's a small world!
I doubt mine would be worth anything much. But I suppose I would sell it if anyone was interested, maybe €50.00?
Its an early 70's Sherpa 250 trials.
Although it was running fine when I took it apart about 15 years ago and the motor still turns over, the rest of it is a bit rough.
The tank, seat and side panels are OK, but I'd say the forks would need a seal kit and a rebuild. Sprockets and chain are well worn and the front wheel is well out of true, also the tyres are obviously shot. Mudguards are knackered too.
I think it's all there except for the rear brake rod and connectors.
The reason I took it apart, was because the threads in the barrel, into which the exhaust pipe securing ring screws, had stripped. The exhaust itself is ok.
Obviously that particular fix was put on the long finger:rolleyes:
I'll take a pic of the remains if anyone's interested.

p.s. I was told the frame is a Sammy Miller replica, which apparently is rare.

Bc agrees with you. He had a 6 hour round trip to pick it up yesterday.
I'm just glad it went to a good home. It owes me nothing.
He sent me a pm just now to say he put it roughly back together, put some fresh juice in it and it roared into life after 15 years and a few kicks:cool:
    This guy doesn't hang around.
