Many Erasmus get to stay at IFSC.. might still have places open? check there, or similar ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭Jegger

i dont know what you mean, Whats the IFSC

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 aneo

    Try entering into Google
    ifsc student accommodation
    ... like this...
    http://www.google.ie/search?num=100&hl=ga&safe=off&as_qdr=all&q=ifsc+student+accommodation&btnG=Cuardaigh&meta=lr%3Dlang_en|lang_fr|lang_de
Many Colleges offer it. But you'd want to apply through TCD or "generically"... if still possible.
IFSC is a large part of the miracle behind the Irish economy. You're 1st BESS, so should know it!
And don't give up on Trinity Hall. You need to follow very specific instructions on the Warden page to keep your application to TH alive... read them on the Warden page.
Where do you live, and why do you think you didnt get in? Did you get your email receipt on applying on the 18th August, and did you pay your 15 euro fee> (and get the receipt for that too, and check you were debited)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭Jegger

I know I didnt get halls cause my no. wasn't on the list, also i have already emailed them about "keeping my application alive". I paid the 15 euro. I know what the IFSC is i just didnt know they offered student accommodation. but thanks for the info i'll call Trinity about it tomorrow.

Get on daft.ie now. And be prepared to travel to view houses as soon as they come up.

Check noticeboards around TCD too if in Dublin. I was there 10 days ago and several adverts of people looking someone to share with them (usually looking for girls though!), and all at reasonable rents (one on Dame St 400pm looked good). Where do you live, and why do you think you didn't get in (yet) to Trin Hall?

Well you will find something... in a city as big as Dublin, hundreds change address every day. And there are tens of thousands looking over the next few weeks, and everyone gets a roof... eventually.
Just I don't understand how you might not have got into Trin Hall, and coming from overseas especially. Did you apply? Paid your 15e etc.? Are you following the procedures to get into the 2nd round etc?

Yes, If your CAO number is not on the provisional list it means you havent been accepted on the first round.

This passage is from the wardens website........
"Students who have applied already but were not successful in their application and who wish to be considered for 2nd round offers do not need to apply again but should send an email to trinity.hall@tcd.ie. The subject line of the email should read "2nd Round Room Offers" followed by one's name. One's name and student number should be included in the body of the mail message."

The closing date to send the e-mail is midnight, Sunday the 14th september.
And the 2nd round list will be published on the 18th.

I strongly suggest that you look for alternate accomodation.

    Best of luck.

what are you going to do for accommodation and how old are you and where from???

kayleighmariex, you keep on asking about people's origins and ages! In most cases, you'll find people's origins just under their name. So Mardy Bum Bum is from Mayo. And then you can look up all his previous posts (click name, then click "Find more posts") and actually find quite a lot of information about everybody! A safe bet that every aspiring Freshman - like yourself - is 18 or fairly close to 18.

That daft list of room or flat offers is very good... Indicates that there are plenty of rooms very close to college - and at far cheaper prices than e.g. Trinity Hall - and no no need for a bus or tram ride. Of course, to get one, you need to be in Dublin NOW, with some CASH in your pocket for the deposit and the first month's rent. But don't worry, stay calm... there'll still be plenty of options over the coming weeks, and remember that there are 000s of others like you!

I'd really like to understand how people from overseas, or far away like Mayo, can be refused Trinity Hall (and remembering that round 2 is still to come). Effectively if schooled in Leinster, or from Leinster, I can understand it. But further away?! That'd be a bloody disgrace if you filled out the forms as was required ! That'd be a case for Miss Foley's good offices indeed. Sorry to be poking around kayleighmariex (along with the other refusals), but did you guys pay 15e deposit and get the receipt? Do you have a copy of what you wrote in the statement of personal interests?

Griffith Halls will take ya now, as will the NCI accommodation as well. Kayleigh, Halls could have made a mistake, they did last year with me as my name wasn't on the list. Seriously hard to believe they didn't let you in, because they use distance from college as one of the main criteria. Maybe give them a ring? I don't mean to get your hopes up, but it's worth a go. Griffith is meant to be good craic, fairly basic but there's loads from other colleges there as well.

    Ok,

Having been on the phone to Trinity Hall; the reason that loads didn't get places even though they live far away is because apparently they didn't read any of the applications. There were loads of applications and they placed anyone who applied for a single room into a lottery and there was a 50/50 chance of getting it or not. It seems they feel they can just ignore the application process (including supporting statements.)Anyone got any ideas about other accomodation or still looking for someone to rent with?

And yes Aneo, paid the €15 and filled out the forms etc... If what they told me is true it seems pretty disgraceful right?

This is actually disgraceful, I spent so much time on my supporting statement and still didn’t get accepted.

Apparently people from Dublin and Kildare got accepted.

I don’t have a place either but was thinking of going up to Dublin on the 20th to look around..

Well if it is just "apparently", that's surmise.

They do state clearly on the website that once all objective criteria are sorted (including distance from family or school), there is a lottery.
Also there will of course be some people from Dublin... there are a whole series of criteria, which you can discover on the website, and that TH is obliged to respect e.g. rooms for scholars, Gaeilgeoir, the disadvantaged, repeating students on the JCR, and so on.

The offers came out gradually, which suggests that they did study each application indeed. And of course they have had to, to allocate the rooms afterwards.

FYI Trinity's programme of positive discrimination in favour of the disadvantaged, the Access programme, is 15% of the first-year intake, and is it seems the biggest programme of its kind among English speaking unis. (You can find at least one regular contributor to this forum on the programme, at TH this year... and from Dublin). And I for one think it is a good idea (with collateral damage as in your case).

TCD is working to build more accommodation... apparently Cunningham is about to get pulled down (not quite yet!) and new appts built.

As for finding alternative accommodation, the posts above give you good clues and there is plenty of advice around, and from what I know, it is a pretty active market and with some work (*that's the trick - you have to be "on site"*), you can find something cheaper and closer, giving you more independence than TH. It's done, it's done, so look on the bright side, and the experience can be turned to your advantage.

Yeah, absoloutely. I'm coming round to the idea of not being in halls and I'm hoping that I will find some sort of accommodation - on that note, does anyone know if Harold's Cross is a good place to be?

I do think that TH needs to wake up a bit in terms of how it deals with applications. I know it says they eventually use a lottery but the line I was given over the phone was that anyone who said they were willing to share an apartment (not room) was automatically assigned a twin room regardless of their preferance and that the rest of the applications were placed in a random selector. If they told us this from the start that would be one thing but to have a process in place and then to not follow it seems rather unethical to me - Never mind a waste of time for those who spent time writing statements during an already hectic time of the year.

In any case, the important thing is that we all get somewhere! I think I may pop up over the next two weeks and see what I can find - Maybe it's just me but i'm finding 'daft' quite hard to use? (Just in terms of finding apartments which can be let to "non-mature" students?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 114 ✭✭YogiBoy

best value, and a quick and easy deal, will be found in sharing with other students that are looking for an extra roommate. There will be quite a number in this situation early on, as someone changes plans. But you need to have your ears wide open to spot opps.
Harolds X is fine... a 20-30m walk into College past Synge St, St Stephens Green.

No its not just you. Even after clicking college search i still got results requesting other professionals and mature students only. i advise collegecribs.ie or studentlettings.ie

There are plenty of quality places on Daft. My problem is that my mate has let me down today, so I've got no one to share with!

    Hi!
I’m just wondering if anyone is still in need of a place. We’re renting an apartment 2 minutes from the back of Trinity-the science end- it’s just down and across from Alexander hotel. Couldn’t be closer really for all college activities, going out, sports, studying in the library etc! It’s nice, bright two room place, with a single and a twin and is in a secure quite complex. There’s two people already in it, one girl and one boy, 2nd year engineers. We’re decent, honest, down to earth people, good crack to be around (looking for someone similar!).

What’s up for rent is the other bed in the twin room, to be shared with either person, so doesn’t matter if a boy or girl applies. The rent is 456 euro per month (114 euro a week) and the lease is a year long (which started in August). The deposit is 483 euro.
If anyone is interested, please feel free to email: kellys25@tcd.ie

    Thanks!

Guys - try the college accommodation service! They are there for exactly what you all seem to be having problems with. Unfortunately it seems to be a drop in or over the phone service (please correct me if im wrong). They are in house 6. Go in the main entrance and left straight away. Most helpful

I'm in need of one person to stay in a single room in a 3 bed flat in Rathmines with 2 2nd year guys in ucd and trinity. Must be tidy. Landlord wants place tidy.
