hi i bought this laptop in late feb and it crashed on me all the time.

before it crashed a blue screen pops up for about 1 an half seconds and then restarts itself, i lose everything im doing aswell.

when i got it it came with windows vista but i bought XP pro beforehand and iv reinstalled windows on countless times.

im sure its still under warrenty but i have alot of family stuff on here that id rather not like to just hand out to anybody,

so my question is can i bring it back because of this? (iv already brought it bac and they told me they just reinstalled windows vista) and also will it be worth the hassle?

Set ur private folders for "hidden" so nobody can see them. I dont think that techs will be looking for hidden files on ur buck. If u dont know how to change file for "hidden" we r here to help u:)

Tbh, i wouldn't give any laptop to pcworld to repair. All they say they're going to do is reinstall Vista, why don't you try? and should it fail to resolve the issue go to pcworld and say i've tried all the above to no avail, and perhaps they'll offer something a bit more appealing.
Backup all your data before doing anything, i presume you can access your files for long enough to do some sort of backup?

they said because i installed windows xp they say they havent got a copy of vista to put on this, and told me to ask advent to send me out a copy of vista cause i shud have gotten it with it.

i have an external HD ill just put everything onto,

also can anyone tell me how long pc worlds warrenty is??

I had assumed you had gotten the Vista CD. That's quite odd it was omitted all right. As for the warranty i'd hazard a guess and say a year. That would be the standard warranty you'd expect.

PC wWorld warranty is the basic 12 months the law provides you with, telling you to contact Advent is ironic as Advent is an 100% PC World owned brand so you can tell them where to go with that one, you are contacting the people you have the contract with: PC World, they are not allowed to fob off their responsibility for a machine on a manufacturer no matter what the brand machine.

    Which PC World was it?

Can it crash at any time, when you're using any application, or does it only happen when playing specific games, or using an image editor, or anything particularly graphics/CPU intensive, or can it happen at completely random times, like just after a reboot, or even be on for a few hours before crashing?

That you've tried Vista and XP, and it still crashes, seems to imply that it's more likely hardware related, though it could still be software related - are you installing any programs that could be harboring malware? Are you applying all the relevant Microsoft patches/updates after reinstalling the OS?

If it was mine, if it was still crashing after OS updates, and anything I was installing seemed clean, I'd try booting with something like Knoppix, and test that for a few days. If it was still crashing after trying this, it's probably hardware related, and I wouldn't waste any more time, and get my money back.

Don't waste any time backing up your data either.

BTW, is there anything written on the blue screen when it crashes (not that it's usually very helpful)?
