Which one will you be getting. They're both out within two weeks of each.

Fifa 9th of October and PES 17th.

Was always a fan of Fifa but all my friends play PES so might have to convert.

    Has to be pro evo!

Despite its faults last year it was still a pretty decent game that you can still pick up and play anytime!

Havent went near fifa really since International Superstar Soccer came out on the SNES!

Again, I didn't play pes2008 on the PS3, only on the PS2 which was far better (for me) than the new Fifa everyone was raving about.

    So pes.

I love PES gameplay, love it. However, if they don't sort out the framerate issue and the online feature, I won't be getting either!

I am reserving judgement until I play both. Pro Evo last year was complete ****e. FIFA wasn't great either but I do hold hope that it will be somewhat like the Euro 2008 game. That is great.

    PES 09
Fifa most likely, I like both of em but couldnt justify buying both of them and I've always slightly favoured Fifa.

    PES 09
FIFA for me, and thats quite a departure as I have gotten PES for the last 4 yrs.
PES08 was pretty poor, far too arcady, no midfield play and what happened to the graphics was a disgrace.

This years version doesn't look much better and Seabass is already making excuses to look out for big changes in 2010 version which is a bad sign.

IMO PES is living off past reputation. Its made no effort to change with this generation of consoles where as FIFA has made huge gains, changes.

why people are making any decision on this without playing either game is absolutely beyond me

TBH Im just assuming, I have them all (Fifa) since '02. Think I only have 1 or 2 Pes titles

always found the fifa v pro evo thing hilarious due to the amount of people who are one or the other, instead of doing the sensible thing and playing either both, or the best of that years 2

    I'm going to get both.....

Had PES till May but sold it and got FIFA, just got bit sick of it, still playing FIFA now, best one since 02, they really went downhill from 03 onwards, Euro had some good aspects like the faster speed and responsiveness but it lost some good aspects from 08 like the shooting(in 80+ games i did'nt see one long shot go in, keepers save everything, there too good from close up aswell) it's better in 08 but at the same time keepers could be poor, hope they can put the good points from Euro in and improve on them for 09, saw a video on youtube, Chelsea-Arsenal, one half of just full gameplay, looks fast, some quick shots let off, you get closed down to fast most of the time in 08 with it's unresponsiveness/slowness

Went back and had a game of PES there yesterday after 3 mths of playing FIFA solid, was a weird experience, very hard to get used too, did'nt seem as good as when i played it all the time.

It used to be so simple.
If you ever played real football (or soccer as you call it here) PES was the one to buy. It was a sure buy for me.
It probably still is, the last fifa i tried was 06.
Last year PES was a failure, most of all because of the horrible on line play.
I probably end up buying PES again but i will not pre-order it anymore. First wait for some reviews.

    PES 09
FIFA ,FIFA, FIFA, ifs its like last years lazy a7se attempt, im getting pes.

    PES 09
Does Fifa have the Eircom Leauge teams again this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭younge

Pro EVO all the way. Last years version didn't live up to the hype i think but the gameplay is far superior and more realistic than Fifa. Ha, i'm sure all ye fifa fans totally agree:D

No matter how poor PES 2008 was I could never bring myself to get FIFA. Wait and see approach for me. If PES fails to deliver I'll just use my PS3 for media purposes and Fight Night which is what is currently does at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,859 ✭✭✭Julez

I'm definitly getting both, I'm a PES fan and was dissipointed by it last year, but it was still a solid game, played fifa last year and it was also a very good game which needed to be ironed out, both will be very close this year, altough having to choose between one or the other I'd go with PES!

    PES for gameplay
    FIFA for graphics

Gameplay wins hands down every time so PES for me

    i dont understand this mentality

theyre not football clubs. you purposely denied yourself the best football game last year because you have loyalty to a brand that messed up?

its a game ffs, they both come out each year, play both and buy the best. its not rocket science

Last year's Fifa may have improved upon it's own previous crap but it still didn't measure up to PES2008 for me (and thats with PES having an off day).

pointless arguing with the hardcore fifa/pes gimps..you might as well be banging your head off a wall.
Personally I think the PES gimps are nigh up there with the apple gimps.
"If you support real soccer you buy pes"...what a moron whoever said that.

Anyway Fifa08 pissed over PES last year..I'll hold on and wait for the reviews and see which way I swing. If both are decent I'll get both.

Sorry, for every year pro evo has been out, it has been the real choice of football fans duh?

Was it crap on the ps3 or something? Cos there is no way pes2008 was worse thsn fifa08 on the ps2. The gap might have closed but jesus fifa is still like robots playing football, with the same goals from the same angles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

PES on Ps3 made baby jesus cry. it hurts just thinking about it.

it had better be a million times better this year.

looking forward to seeing how FIFA has improved. if it still has the eircom league i'll be buying it.

Have you played fifa08? I was an obsolute die hard pes fan (and still am) but fifa is really good. You can score from anywhere, anyhow. It's at its best when you play all-manual, though. It's tough to start off with but if you stick with it you can put the ball absolutely anywhere and play some great satisfying passes/crosses/chips/shots. You have so many ways to beat a player in fifa - 360 degrees of freedom.

There are a good few things that still annoy me about fifa but as a die hard pes fan I can say I like both almost equally.

Only on the ps2 and I didn't know what all the fuss was about if Im honest. It was better than 07 alright but was it just much better on the next gen consoles or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,449 ✭✭✭Call Me Jimmy

    PES 09
Well I haven't played it on ps2 so I can't really tell ye. As I said I have a good few gripes with it, but depending on my mood I can actually prefer to play fifa08 over pes sometimes. I have been playing all-manual as I said so I don't know if I would have liked it as much with just the normal controls... but even with the normal controls ye can do a lot more with a pass then in pes I think.

Pes6 was better then pes2008 on the ps2. Very similiar game but Pes2008 is too easy and the keepers are crap.

Im glad I missed the next gen effort anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

    About the PS2 version of PES2008 ....

It is definitely noticeably different from its next-gen cousins, in that it plays nothing like them at all! (different game engine i guess?).

It is in fact really just a data update on the previous years PS2 PES6; it seems to use pretty much the same gameplay style, and that was no bad thing at all. It plays really really well and its still the footie game of choice around my office :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,472 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

    PES 09
Yep Konami made a bollix of it last year for the PS3/XBOX360.
Left out half of the usual leagues and the graphics were crap on the updated engine.
With the PS2 they just updated the previous year's roster and graphics.

Just saw this thread now, and I have to say that I honestly thought that it would be 3 pages of PES v FIFA fanboys, tit for tat slagging, my dad can beat your dad type sh!t.

Its refreshing to see a FIFA v PES post thats objective and analyses the merits and downfalls of each, giving completely unbiased opinions, and attempting to avoid partisan recommendations for people who are not familiar with either..

    But PES 2008 was tripe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,406 ✭✭✭brianon

    PES 09
Well I always went for PES over FIFA. Wasn't until FIFA 08 that I changed my mind. UEFA 08 then further compounded it.
FIFA 09 sounds great and I would imagine based on recent form it should be the better game.

btw PES 2008 was rubbish. Played it on ALL formats and it was just crap. I;ve bought every PES since ISS but maybe not this year :(

    Still unsure...

Used to be a loyal FIFA purchaser and player (PC) but my last was RTWC '98 because after that I felt EA got a little lazy and complacent. Then was introduced to Pro Evo; got 4, 5 and 6 but did not get 2008 because of constant complaints (sometimes from even the most die-hard fan).

So now I'm a little unsure which side to go for...Perhaps go for PC demo versions and judge from there.

    🤪
