    Hi
I am thinking of importing a car from the UK. I was looking for an Audi A4 and noticed that the 2005 2.0 TDI SE models seem to be cheaper than the 2005 1.9 TDI models! Does anyone know why this is?

I was looking for a 1.9TDI model as the VRT is cheaper for the most of them with 154g/km CO2 emmissions

    Thanks

Maybe somthing to do with company car tax in uk which is based on emmissions too. The 2.0 is a far superior engine anyway

I don't know why it's cheaper, I doubt they're cheaper on the whole maybe you just found a particular model which was cheaper than the 1.9?

Anyway they're 170bhp with 350nm torque with a 6-speed box. You cannot possibly go wrong with this!

Afaik, the 2.0 TDI in an A4 in 2005 would be 140bhp only.I think the 170bhp version of that engine didnt become available till 2006.

I think they might be a bit cheaper because the brits(Unlike us i have to say) can see that the 1.9TDi block is too noisy and old fashioned for use in a car with executive aspirations, i.e, they, on a whole found the 2.0 to be a better buy and they are now more common used.I noticed the same thing when looking for an A3 recently, more comon in 2.0TDi form that 1.9

Slightly off topic but I drove a Passat 2.0 TDi 140bhp yesterday and to be honest I was underwhelmed by the responsiveness from the engine. I know the Passat is not a light car but I still was genuinely disappointed by the engine especially the turbo lag which I found very noticable. I was expecting it to be worlds apart compared to my little Focus TDCi but in reality it didn't feel it. Maybe it was just that particular Passat?

looking at 2005 audi a4s soon. is there a major difference in the 1.9 115bhp and the 2.0 140bhp diesels. have a 1.9tdi with 130bhp at min which i love the power.

has anyone driven both the 05 a4 with both engines?

Yep, the 2 litre is a lot better than the 1.9 130, in most respects. There isn't a massive difference in the power, but the 2 litre delivers it across a nice spread - being a 16 valve diesel. The 130 1.9 shovels it at you all at once then nothing.
If I had any choice at all I'd never buy the 1.9.
