staff are being laid off at my work. we where told last week their will be redundancies but today the staff are being told who is getting laid off. we where told this morning it will be eleven! i went home sick today and i'm getting texts and phone calls about who is getting paid off. horrible feeling! from a selfish point of view i was told my job is safe, all the managers where told they were safe...ive already lost three from my department and with four more to be announced im dreading the next text or phonecall :( unfortunately not much i can do, damn yanks are to blame for all this

That's never nice. What industry do you work in?

It's a horrible time for people in that environment. For what it's worth, many of us IT people went through this 7-8 years ago. I remember an old company I worked for had to shed most of their staff and the desk phones just started ringing one by one as they were asked to call into the HR manager and get their marching orders.

Not entirely sure the yanks can get the full blame for this though?

easier to blame the yanks than anyone else....i still reckon that the industry wouldnt be in such downfall if the banks continued to give out loans. there is a few contractors in the area that stated they would still be building if the banks gave them money....!

It's not really for this thread but the yanks are the last people to blame for the current construction problem in Ireland and the way we got into this problem was the banks were too eager to give money to any and every one.

And imo you should have stuck around in work sick or not considering your co-workers are being let go.

they are going to be there until the 19th of next month. i did think about throwing up in their face everytime one was let go but decided the trauma of them being let go was enough! as for the yanks, i dont know who is to blame and imo i dont think you know either. i posted as i was lying in bed with nothing much to do but occasionally move my head to the left and aim for the bucket. if there was something i could do for them i would be the first person doing it!
