Cat Fight C&C

I'm mostly looking for Post Processing critique here, but I'd love to hear any other suggestions comments you have on the pictures.

I processed them with both Painshop and Picnik. They were taken at the furthest reach of my70-300mm f/4-5.6 and yet both images are crops. (It took me an age to find out where the howls were coming from!)

Personally I feel #1 is too heavily contrasted and too 'orange', but is as sharp as I want it, whereas I think #2 is flat, but less 'in your face'. Any suggestions? Also, is the vignette subtle enough? I'm still getting to grips with where and when (and how) to use it.

    Context:
The cat on the right is mine (Ted) and the white one is the one he bullies. Today was the first time he stood up to himself and my lad wasn't too impressed.

    Thanks,
    Sean

#1 for me, the extra contrastie Orange adds to the viciousness.
As you said #2 is flattish and when it comes to violence flat = a no no.

    Is there an original pic?

    /edit
I must have drank extra strong Bulmers at lunch but of course #1 look's more aggressive, it's 2 diff pics and the white cat has his mouth open in it!

I'd actually deleted the original, but when I clicked back and entered the url it showed up in the preview post. I'll load another just in case in fails though.

    Do you have Lightroom?

There is a great option in it called "temp", i reckon loading your first image into it and dropping that level would reduce the orange but keep the sharpness for you.

If you don't have it i can give it a shot for you later to show you what i mean?

    Cheers Dragan.

But isn't Lightroom just for RAW files?
I'm running low on disk-space here at home and I've no RAW editors/lightroom, so I'm shooting in .jpg until I get to college.

Is there any other way around it, or should I just get it right when I'm shooting next time?

No it's not just for RAW files. You do a lot in Lightroom with jpegs, although probably more with RAW. But I shoot in jpeg and process it through Lightroom and there is a lot of scope there for tweaks and improvements
