Has anyone used any of the sites to build your tree? What would you recommend? I was looking at Ancestry.com

I've used GenesRenunited which has been useful in that I've managed to fill up a few gaps in the tree dating from 1909 or so. It costs about 10 sterling a year as far as I remember.

    Also using Genes Reunited.
Found quite a few unknown relations using it.
Not many hits on my Irish side of the family.

This one would be useful for me, but not all counties on the island of Ireland have got online search facilities yet. I'm interested in Kerry and Derry - and these are two of them that aren't yet up and running. Damn.

And then, if your ancestors legged it to Scotland, there's the following site

    http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

As usual, you can do a free search on these, but if you want to view or print a record, you have to cough up. The latter is annoying if you've paid good money, only to find out that the ancestor's no relation, and only shared the same name as the one you're looking for. A nice little earner for the websites.

Just started resesarching my own family tree recently and found the www.irish-roots.ie website very useful. I managed to get about 70% of my family back as far as the 1830's. They were in Sligo, Roscommon and Cavan. Fairly reasonably priced too and in synch with what alot of the other english sites have been charging:)
