Can anyone tell me when The Strangers is being released in Dublin cinemas?

I can't find details anywhere, apart from a review on entertainment.ie.

    Ahhhh... I stand corrected!

There is already another thread blasting it..

But for what's it's worth, I didn't think it was nearly as bad as they're making out. As horror movies go, it was more tense than most films that pass for horrors.

The acting isn't great.. but I also thought the characters were somewhat easier to identify with than other couples depicted in the same life-or-death situation. I would go into reasons why but don't want to spoil the movie!

Dont waste the price of the ticket. I watched it about a month ago in America and it is an absolutely terrible film.

It looks really creepy, and as Basquille pointed out, scarier than most movies that get passed off as 'horrors' these days.

Starts off really promising but descends into total dragged out skid marks.Nothing happens and there really isn't a decent air of tension built up through out the thing, because the trailer basically gives the whole film away. It's like Funny Games, except there is actually more violence in that and more of a story.Awful movie, and in even worse news a sequel is being put into production already with basically the same cast.If you want to see a good horror wait for Martyrs, it makes this look like an even more boring and slightly disturbing episode of Will and Grace.

Just after watching The Strangers after years of waiting. Having read the original script a few years back I can't help but feel that had they kept in the Manson family theme it would be a far more satisfying film. I should add that the script was written in 2004 so accusations of plagiarism from Them is a bit unfair.

As it stands the film is very entertaining and that it does'nt resort to gore but instead relies on a slow building tension is something to be treasured. Being a horror fan is hard these days, as most film makers are under the false assumption that gore is what people want. What horror fans want and respond to are atmospheric films which rely on building suspense and genuine scares. With that in mind I think that the film has enough redeeming qualities to out weigh its flaws. Plus who can't love a film which features Glenn Howerton from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?

I think I will actually go and see this now. Its been a while since i wanted to see a horror film, as they are all just torture porn flicks now, which are for the most part, utter ****. Will be nice to be a bit freaked out, without the need of over the top violence.

Went to see this last night and while it is better than most horrors, that isn't really saying much. Main problem is how cheap and clichéd it feels: the scares are mainly based around predictable 'jumps' and swelling strings. Every 'unexpected' appearance is obvious a mile away (
such as the boyfriend's reappearance, the friend getting shot and the hiding in the pantry bit
. And the character development is pretty awful, mostly one flashback which previous dialogue at hinted at anyway.

    That said, some good moments
the masked man's first appearance is an excellent shot, if somewhat runied by the trailer
and it is still preferrable to more Saw films. And for including Joanna Newsom's The Sprout and the Bean they get some extra points.

So a largely conventional, predictable horror, worth watching in a screen full of overreacting teenage girls though :pac: So much unnecessary screaming...

why is the trailer for it on tv during every ad break? it looks like a load of crap to be honest

Damn, this is one terrible film. Full of plot holes and with a terrible ending.
Why would the killers stop, talk to the two kids and let them live after just committing a heinous crime? It makes no sense at all. But, then again, neither did the film as a whole
If you haven't seen this yet, do yourself a favour: go see Hellboy II or a decent movie instead!

Not a good film at all. Not scary tbh

watched this last night. Wish I'd looked for a thread on here before doing so as it's utter pants :(

The whole movie is so formulaic and predictable that it becomes painful to watch for the last 30 minutes. After the first initial scare it goes down hill quickly with a series of coincidental accidents trying to make up for the weak amount of tension throughout the whole movie

Also, I've made a vow now to never watch another movie with Liv Tyler in a lead role, she is a horrible, horrible actress. Not one of her scenes where believeable throughout the whole movie.

I wouldn’t mind getting a list of good home invasion movies together.
I think that it should be a genre on its own, there is something severely disturbing about someone breaking into your house.

Here’s what I have so far

The Others………………… Home Invasion. This one is meant to be really good.
The Strangers……………. Home Invasion. This one is meant to be really bad.

30 days of Nights………. This one has a fairly creepy home invasion scene.
Clockwork Orange……. The beginning of this has a ok’ish home invasion scene.
