18 but it's a bit of a hit and miss service very hard to tell what time it will get to rathmines at, you could see if it's worth walking here

The 18 approaches Rathmines from Harolds Cross and travels along Kenilworth Road, Rathmines Road, Castlewood Road, through Ranelagh, Appian Way, Waterloo Road, Pembroke Road, through Ballsbridge and on to Sandymount.

no you can only get it across from the garda station (beside pizza hut) as it turns down towards ranelagh just after that

The 18 stops on Kenilworth Road, Grosvenor Road, opposite the Garda Station and on Castlewood Avenue (the right turn at the Swan Centre).

You can either walk along Rathgar Road or get any bus from Rathgar going towards the city to the stop opposite the Garda Station, and then walk back to the adjacent stop which is for the 18 only.

The 18 operates every 10-15 minutes in the peak and every 20-25 minutes off-peak.

The full timetable is at the following link - allow about 40-50 minutes for a bus to get to Rathmines from Palmerstown in the peak hour.

Castlewood ave. (and into Ranelagh itself) is a notorious bottleneck during the morning and evening rush and there are no bus lanes so the 18 fairly crawls along here - often slower than walking speed.

If you're going to walk to the garda station in Rathmines, you may as well continue walking in my opinion: Castlewood ave., through Ranelagh, the Appian way and Clyde Road. It's only another 20/25 minutes. You'll reach Leeson St walking from Rathmines before the bus during rush hour.

Note that buses tend to get stuck outside the Garda Station, you might be better off going to Castlewood Avenue to get the 18.

Alternatively cycle via Cowper Laus stop.
