    Elara are due a version of the G50V in stock in about two weeks though I'm not sure if it is the one you are looking for.

    thanks for that. if none of the irish retailers are doing it, i'll take that. its down on cpu power compared to US spec ones for some reason

    thanks for that. full specs for the A1 are linked from my first post. full specs of A2:

    2 X 200GB 7200rpm hard drives
    Blu-ray drive

    they are the only differences

    looking at the elara specs and model, its Seems a Totally different animal from the US spec ones

    That was a bit embarrassing, on the phone to Asus and just about to ask them about the laptop and found out the link you posted does not work. :o

    Can you give me the spec and I will check it out for you.

    Official response from Asus UK/Ireland.

    The G50V-EP048C is new & the only G50V currently available. The specs are:

    15.6" WXGA (1280x800, Colour-Shine), Intel® Core™2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz), NVidia GeForce 9700M GS DDR3, 512MB dedicated graphics memory, 320GB (5400rpm), 4096MB (2048x2) DDRII 800 RAM, Blu-Ray Combo, Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium, 802.11AGN, Numeric Keypad, Webcam, Bag & Mouse, Express Gate, 2 Yr Global Warranty

    The lead-time will be 2-3 weeks.

    thats a REALLY stripped down version from the US market. Way less screen res, lower CPU speed. Any idea what the RRP will be? thanks for looking BTW

    why is the one released on the Irish Market for €1300 lower specced than the one in the US which is ~€1000

    Don't know... but I am guessing it is the same reason why cars are so much cheaper in the states. It's just the way manufacturers price products for different regions. I can assure you that we are not making any more than our fellow resellers in the states.

    I know that Elara (or any other irish retailer) doesn't downgrade laptops from suppliers but its makes ZERO sense to me cripple the product with a lower cpu and poorer screen. such a pity. will probably have to organise a trip to the states to get the one i want :(

    Yeah definately does not make sense, we can only sell what we are given though unfortunately. We seem to always get the new stuff last and at a higher cost though. :(
