I recently saw this film on the BBC, hadn't seen it in years but I remembered it well because of its general greatness.

I'm looking for someone else who remembers the film. If you remember, near the end, the Jamaicans are kicking ass in the bobsled much to the irritation of the "bad guys". So one of the bad guys gets the idea of interfering with the nuts and bolts of their bobsled, leading to their eventual crash at the end of the film.

Now in my most recent viewing on the BBC that whole part was cut with no allusion to foul play whatsoever. So theyre bobsledding to the max, then suddenly they crash and ur left wondering wtf? It ruined the nostalgic whirlwind I found myself caught up in whilst watching because the ending doesn't really make sense anymore.

Does anyone know why this happened?

The bad guys never interfered with the sled, it was an old sled that broke naturally. After the crash the 'bad guys' (the East German lads) join in the applause for them carrying it over the line. He then shakes their hands in the next scene.
I think you got your wires crossed, unless its a deleted scene I have never seen.

Nearly brings a tear to the eye!! And what about their jingle

"Nuff people say, you know they can't believe, Jamaica, we have a bobsled team.
    We have the one Derice
    And the one Junior
    Yul Brenner
    And Sanka
The fastest of the fastest of Jamaican sprinters...
Go to Olympics, fight for Jamaica!

Actually bought this film last weekend...

I saw it the other day too, and funnily enough I had the same experience as you OP, until my brother told me that it actually does just brake by itself. Maybe its the years of watching films where the bad guy always tampers with the good guy's stuff that has programmed my brain to think that this always happens. It is strange!

Its very possible that you both could have seen 2 different versions of the film, if anyone remembers the butterfly effect with ashton kutcher there were two endings for that film and both where released.

Could be 2 endings but the only one I remember is that they can only get a rickity old training sled as they need it at such short notice and with no money then it falls apart. They then get applauded and shake hands with the "East Germans" who say "See you in 4 years Jamacia"
