Personally I think the Garmin is the better option.
I have expereince with both and I feel the Garmin has the edge.
    Firstly it is cheaper!
Secondly from my experience it is faster and more reliable connecting to satelites than the Tom Tom.
From reveiws I have read online the Garmin is better at routing than the Tom Tom and in my oppinion has a better user interface.
Garmin also has the edge on looks ;)

Tomtom all the way ! I also have experience of both and find Garmins UI inferior to TT's also with TT you will benefit from Mapshare as well as IQ Routes™ technology and Advanced Lane Guidance ..
