    Hi All,

I am thinking fo working in Aldi as a cashier, but I have heard terrible stories like you are worked to the bone; dont get any benefits like a pension until you are there over a year; are not allowed to join a union and if they find out you are in the union, you get fired!

Are these storis true?? Im torn, as I need the money, please help!!

    Thank you!

If you don't have a job now and you need one to get the money flowing and you have a position in Aldi available for you then take then. It's always easier to find a job while in a job and you'll be making money while you're at it.

    My 2 cent.

All companies must make provisions for pension schemes to be available to their staff- this does not mean they have any obligation to make contributions on your behalf- simply that they have to make a scheme available to you. You are also free to make contributions to a private pension plan should you so choose (New Ireland and many other companies have very wide ranges of products).

Its a non-unionised company- akin to many places. It doesn't mean that you will be fired if you join a union- simply that the company does not recognise the right of a union to negotiate on behalf of their members. The days of getting fired for joining a union are long gone (Ryanair notwithstanding!).......

It probably is hard work- but its an honest job, probably local, and in a tightening economy- its getting busier unlike everywhere else- so you are extremely unlikely to be made redundant. You will get statutory breaks and any other legal rights are all explicitly spelt out in law, and adhered to.

Its a job, in an expanding company- albeit opening positions may possibly not pay the best. It is a job though.

Can't agree more, and if you don't like the idea of working with aldi, there's plenty worse out there.

Aldi pay you double put your expected to work at least three times as hard. Talk to any of the Area Managers if you don't believe me. Also it is true that even the check out girls have to scans a certain amount of items per minute.
