I remember reading about a 'Security Task Force' being disbanded,or about to be,in one of the tabloids.Apparently the aforementioned unit had the responsibility of patrolling cash-in-transit routes in the DMR.
I read also that armed detectives based at main airports(Shannon,Dublin etc)were being reassigned to uniform!I also remember reading that armed patrols by units like ERU and SDU were being cut back to ridiculous levels(something like a single car w/ 2 detectives in the entire inner city area!)

Now,I read these articles in either the Star or the Mirror(I was working in a small shop,I was bored. . all the Indo's were gone!:D)during the summer, and I can't remember the dates the articles were published .. and I can't provide links to back it up!:o

BUT,is there any truth to these stories!?

I know GNIB staff at airports, the folks in the booths who check your passport etc are uniform, but there are still armed bod's floating about.

As for the others maybe thats in relation to Anvil cutbacks

At a time where gun crime is on the rise, and organised crime is no longer confined to Dublin,Limerick and Cork . . major operations should not be downsized.Nor should the units involved!

Don't know about other national units, but the NBCI are being squeezed big time.
They aren't being given subsitence in Dublin so have to go back to Harcourt Square for their lunch during invetsigations. Say there was a case in Santry: they wouldhave to leave there in good enough time tpo get back to the Square for lunch then go back to Santry. What a waste of resources.
And if their jobs are within 90 miles of the Square they aren't entitled to claim overnight accommodation. Crazy stuff.

Wasn't it in Waterford or Wexford that a 20 strong team was being disbanded? I think that's the one I read during the week in the paper.
