    Hi all,

I have been told that in some social welfare offices there is up to a six month backlog for new dole claims. Does anyone know if this is true?
    It seems unbelievable?

I'm sure there are conditions attached to that, like if you've just moved to the country or if you've never paid PRSI. As far as I know, if you're working in Ireland and you lose your job, you can claim as soon as you've provided sufficient evidence that you've been looking for new work and they backdate your claim to when you stopped working.

Nope, i was just told that i was intitled to it, no problems. I gave her all the details and everything was in order, enough stamps etc.

Its just that they were so busy in the social welfare office that it would take them 6 months to process it.

Back paid in 5 - 6 months alright, but its just lucky i have savings.

It is very rare for any claim to take 6 months to process. Thay are taking a while but only 4 weeks for Jb and 6 weeks for Ja on average at the moment.

I hope your right, but she insisted that it would be 4 - 6 months. I asked her how someone would survive if they had a mortgage and and family to feed.

She suggested going to the health board or St VdeP.

    I was quite shocked.

What time is the mail boat leaving for England?

My husband was made redundant the end of June and is still waiting for Jobseekers Benefit to be paid despite all the paperwork being in order and a claikm made on June 23rd, this is for Navan Co Meath and was told end of July they were only just processing claims for March

Get your local TD to look into the delay. He/She will ask Minister Hanafin on your behalf and hopefully someting will be done.

Get to you Community Welfare Officer now and claim everything you are due. That's what you pay tax and PRSI for.
