    Hi,

First of all, I know nothing about guns. Is there a gun called a G6 or a G4?? there might be some other letters/ numbers in the name too?? and secondly, is there anywhere in Ireland you can go to target practice???

    thanks!

I don't know about the safe, you would need to give more info?

Are you looking for a safe?

Yes, you can join target shooting clubs, some of which are listed at http://www.rifle.tcdlife.ie

Sorry, thought you were looking for a gun safe called a G3!! My bad

There's an old service rifle called the G3 and a new one called the G36. In target shooting there would be the Walther LG300 (an air rifle), the GSP (a smallbore pistol) and a few others, but the list is a bit long - was it a rifle or a pistol?

Yes, there are many places where you can do target practise in Ireland, but if you've never used a firearm before, you'd be best to join your local club and learn there. What part of Ireland are you in?

The G6 is the new STI, it is a czech model K100 rebranded. It is used in Production shooting with the IPSC.

There are many locations for practice, where are you based ?

    Oh goody, a puzzle! :D

Hi Angelica, as you'll no doubt have gathered by now, there are lots of guns with the letter 'G' and a number and possibly more numbers and letters in their name.
We'll have to narrow the search down a bit; for starters, are we talking about a rifle, a shotgun, or a pistol here?

oh my god, i didnt realise there were so many types!!!! i'm fairly certain it's a rifle. it's not for me by the way, my boyfriend was saying to one of his friends that he's always wanted to try out some G rifle, that its the best thing ever. so i got to thinking that it would be a great christmas present (i'm an early planner!!!).

ill do a bit more digging and see if i can get the proper name. im based in dublin.

thanks for all the replies so far!!

Great, we're narrowing it down a bit now.

It's probably safe to assume () that it was a .22, but just to make sure, did it use little bullets like these-

    ...or big bullets, like these?-

Was the stock made of wood or plastic?

Come on Guys, don't be so mean, of course he can go target shooting with one of those, but he will probably have to join the Army, spend 2 years shouting 'Bang, Bang' and then they might let him :p

he will be well tooled up with the G36 , if he phones the department of defence asks for the ranger wing ,they most lightly will give him a few shots .

To actually answer the OP, no, it's not going to be possible to buy or go target shooting with the H&K G36C because it's an assault rifle, which means it can fire in automatic mode (meaning hold down the trigger and it keeps firing), which means it's a category A firearm in the EU, meaning noone outside the Military or Police can hold one without special permission from their government.

    HK G36C ('Compact' or 'Commando')

For the reasons outlined above, unless your boyfriend has the contents of his wardrobe and his food and lodging provided by the Minister of Defence/Justice, his chances of legally acquiring one of these here are vanishingly close to zero.

The SL8 is a semi-automatic variant of the G36C and the R8 is a straight-pull bolt action version, either of which I suspect would be most acceptable substitutes.
There's at least one SL8 licenced in this country, so it can be done, but it's a long way up the 'idontlikethelookofthat' scale from a .22 target rifle, so the legwork/paperwork/security arrangements/club memberships/etc/etc might not make it a viable proposition.

I hope your boyfriend appreciates how lucky he is that you're asking about this! :D

You can always buy a HK SL8 & get a conversion kit for it to make it kinda resemble the G36 (totally legal). But to be honest the stock model SL8 would be nice as it is.
