Sure is. Coaches Brian Gregan of 400m fame amongst many others. Lives in Raheny as far as I know.

Is that a cheap-shot reference to Gregan's DQ in the Euro juniors?

    Of course it is.

Some people are so spiteful and jealous !

It is a shot not so much at Gregan- it was unfortunate it happened on that stage for him, he was not the first nor will he be the last to be dq'd at a major comp..

More a dig at the lack of regard towards lane infringements that happen in this country.

Its a hard one to govern without a million TV cameras though and the benefit will be minimal. Maybe a kayaking style time penalty could be added instead of DQ:D

    Hard to govern?

Officials on bends watching for lane violations would be a good start, same with hurdles in 400mH

Jaysus, its hard enough to get enough officials to cover the basics of the current events, basically 2-3 per field event so I think its low on the officials priority. Its even not uncommon for competing athletes to be seen measuring at some events!

I agree though governance of the 400m hurdles is more of a priority as there is more of a benefit for a 4 hurdler to be hooking (bringing trail leg outside and beneath the hurdle particularly right leg lead on a bend) than a 200 or 400 merely stepping on the line once or twice. One of our best ever 400 hurdlers was a regular hooker:)

And this is the coach's fault?

Two experienced sprinters were DQed in the Olympic 200m final. Is it down to their coaches, or officiating back home? Does the USA have a lack of regard for lane infringements? Or just bad coaches?

It was a pointless remark, in my opinion.

Well a lack of regard for lane infringements at national level is bound to result in DQs at international level occasionally. Sounds like a fair point to me.

Sure lets forget there is a rulebook Pherekydes start the sprints on a curved line, save all that nasty business of DQs

Yes coaches can be responsible, if athletes get sloppy in training it will translate to competition.

Officals if they see it should dq athletes and track referees should back them (I have been overturned, because "sure the athletes are young it is a learning experience")

Spearmons infringement would have only have saved him around 4mm, but on the biggest stage of his career thats all that matters

Rulebook!! Irish athletics is very poor when it comes to implenting rules especially at a juvenile level as generally "yera there only kids" is a rule of its own.I know Nenagh isnt quiet international standard but i know for a fact that the outside track isnt marked properly,ie.some athletes run longer than others!!:D And as for lane infringments i dont think ive ever seen a race in there where there wasnt several, yet how often are they pulled up?I wont even start on the rules involving throwing implements at competitions. The overall problem lies with at one competition some rules are used and others they are not. Therefore when athletes go abroad to compete they are probably more likely to get in a bit of bother with a rule that they get away with in Ireland.

Athletics Ireland doesn't have a Rules of Competition

Uses IAAF Rules of Competition- then ignores parts to suit...
