Your prob tired of these kind of threads but an after a bit of advice on upgrading from my Finepix S6500fd

Was looking around at the weekend and seen this in a shop window FinePix S100FS and am very interested in investing in it but have no clue if its any good or if there is anything better out there around the 600euro range

I have only really gotten into photography in the last year

What I am mainly interested in is macro shots but an all round camera would be good

The reason I am interested in the S100FS is because I know the settings and interface on my S6500 and am used to it

    Any advice would be great

I do think that the Fuji Bridge range are generally very good.

The major difference Ican see is that the S100FS has a "Super Macro" which focuses approx from 1cm /0.4 in. to 1m /3.3 ft.

I assume you would sell the S6500FD, so it would cost you the difference to upgrade. If Macro is your thing then it may be the way to go.

You could carry on learning on the S6500FD until you find a few more limitations & then move on to a DSLR. I guess it depends on your budget & how much you really want to try macro. The thing is that route you will need a body & a macro lens which would cost a lot more.

once you are into the €600 or thereabouts you are also into the entry level dSLR range. So the question is probably more whether you would intend albeit at a later stage doing 'more' with your photography (whatever more actually is?). If so you may be better going entry level dSLR as you will have choice of lens, further body upgrades, external flash units, etc...

The fuji stuff is great in my experience - i've used two older models - both bridge types, one of which i owned, and i loved them as cameras (I still have one and it comes out just once and a while). They are a little limiting though. Things may have well improved but i always find the P&S or bridge types poor when it came to low light shooting and image quality has had issues in the past. Eitherways i'm sure the S100SF is a fine camera. Is it such a step up from the S6500 though? ie. will it be worth it in the long run or perhaps the S6500 is on its last legs?

If thinking of a dSLR - beware of the learning curve and that you'll probably be broke for the rest of your life upgrading further ;)

Hope it works out well for you.
