Envirocare biocycle unit

Can anyone give me a steer on this system, we're coming to the end of a build and need to get one installed. The unit wasn't originally in the budget and the build is well over budget already. Biocycle are quoting €8,750 and Envirocare €3,400 - this is a huge difference, has anyone experience of the Envirocare unit?

generally, once the systems are properly certed (IAB or BBA) you can use whatever you want.

obviously at those prices you are not comparing like for like, so sit down and see what biocycle include that envirocare dont..

biocycle are steel fibre reinforced concrete.
envirocare are glass fibre reinforced polymer.
will biocycle install, commission and certify the system?
    will envirocare?
    what maintainence costs is there?
what electricial loading do both have?
Are pumps required for raised percolation beds? included?

I have dealt with both before. Its horses for courses I'm afraid.

Biocycle are the only treatment unit in the country with different setback distances on their IAB. this is only benifical if you are living in one of the 3 counties that are still on SR6 guidelines and if you have a very small site.

the biocycle is a big unit. It has alot of internal moving part and to be honest I'm not a fan of moving parts. If anything goes wrong it can be expensive and messy. As far as I'm aware the biocycle unit does not have European Certification. (if it does it would want to say it on the site suitability reports it sends out). You would also want to check out the annual running costs and maintence costs with the unit.

the envirocare unit is a Kingspan product. I have also specified this product in the past and I have seen an installation. Fast and hassle free. Now I'm not promoting one over the other but for ease of maintainece and installation I would have to go with envirocare. there are no internal moving parts and the air compressor runs off 60 watts. total cost of electricity per year approx 60euro.

A bit of advice. the key to a good treatment unit is a good percolation area. Dont skrimp on the piping. what part of the country are you in? Also for any grounds worker lad installing treatment units is bread and butter work.

    any q's PM me.

I got the BAF oakstown system installed last month -no problems yet but it is early days. It consists of two concrete tanks with a total capacity of 4000 litres. I had to get the hole dug and do the percolation works and their lorry dropped them in to place. The cost of the tanks was 4,800 and they commissioned it .

    Ours is coming tomorrow...
Feel happier with the concrete construction and much larger capacity...

We hit major rock 15 inches below soil level... rock breaker for 5 hours to excavate the tank... at least there is no chance of it sinking

Surely the rock would have been found when the initial percolation tests were done in trial pits? How was the system and percolation area designed if the tests were not done? And if you needed this as part of planning permission how did you get it without being asked for P-test results from the council???
Sounds like somebody gave you bad advice if you only found the rock at installation! Then again, it could be just a random massive boulder I suppose...

I don't know much except that it's made by EPS, who have been in the business for a while. They claim to have certs to BS 12566-3, which would make them a rival for the Biocycle units, which conform to IS EN 12566-3 (The Irish euro-norm equivalent of the british standard). Until recently Biocycle were the only supplier in the country compliant with this new standard.
What I would do is get a quote from both with the certificate of effluent quality to this standard, then decide if your pocket or your environmental conscience dictate.
A work of note: depending on the size of tank supplied, you may have to get it desludged more or less frequently - again ask for volumes and projected desludging frequencies. Also the cost of service contracts from both - testing for the first 6-9 months and the replacement of moving parts and filters at whatever frequency they advise.

    hi,

If the system you are talking about is what i think it is then i have one. Installed it 3 years ago. Very simple system but works a treat. perculation bed is the most important. bigger the better. PM me if you like. make sure we are on the same system. I can dig out the details on mine. If it is the same as mine its a good one.
