    Guys,

How long should it take to get down to picnic from Dublin at 5 in the evening?

Anything from 2hrs to 7hrs depending on how bad the traffic management plans go this year.

    Jaysus.

Wish I'd thought ahead and got the Friday off work.

Any quicker on the train to Portlaoise and taxi-ing it from there I wonder?

Was travelling by train last year the weekend of the picnic and noticed that there were actual coaches running to the picnic. Don't know how much it was but none of the people who went to get on were put off by the price. They were parked up at the station. I don't know if they'll do it this year. But you could always get some people to share a taxi if they aren't.

If you can read this, you're too close!

I believe the main problem was the last stretch of road from Portlaoise to Stradbally. I know people who werent getting into the campsite until after midnight and the like because of the delays. I suspect though the organisers will have been told (warned) to sort out their act this time around. There is some mention of a traffic management plan thats meant to show up on the website sometime soon.

To be safe my advice is to get moving the second the clock hits 5pm. The rush is more from 7pm onwards as the majority of the Friday workers stuck in the office will head home first to change then head back out. If you skip that step you should lead the rush and miss the worst of it.

I left Dublin about 2.30pm last year. Landed on site just in time to hear Bjork wrapping up her set! Must have been about 9pm! But last year was a disaster! Hopefully this year it will be sorted out!

Wow.. didnt realise it was that bad! Thought it was the work crowd rush that caused the problems. So glad I'm leaving at 8am.. might see if we can convince people to make it earlier. :D

By the way - those PDF print out tickets - do they check the name on them at the gate? Since I bought mine off a friend, her name is on it and I don't think I could pass for a Kate even on one of my rare good days!

I'm not travelling from Dublin, but my friends left there last year at 3.00 pm and didnt get to the campsite until 10.30 pm.

What a waste of a day!

Apparently they dont, theres no need to get stressed over it.

If they do i'll have to change my name to Mary!

We left Dublin (Lucan) at 1pm last year. Was about 200 feet from the Car Park at EP at around 5.30 when somebody crashed into the back of me. Wrote my poor car off. I was gutted.

This year we are leaving at around 11am. Hope to get there for around 1.30. We have 4 tents and a gazebo this year (between 7 of us) so want to make sure we have a bit of space to park everything.

Wondering if the train might be a better option - at least it'll get there quicker even if you have to crawl the last while.

Anyone know will there be buses available at Portlaoise station?

Heard plenty of horror stories of people leaving late afternoon and not getting in till after midnight- simple as leave as early as you can! Friday is prob the best night too!!

    Thanks for that.

If you'd volunteer to cut the power to my office late Thursday night I could go first thing Friday. Other than that it's 2 or half 2 on Friday before I'm on a bus.

Not certain but I imagine that you won't encounter much delays at all on Saturday. The vast majority of people will be there by Friday night so I'd imagine you'll be there comfortably between 3 and 4 at the latest.
