What courses are good for greencards?

    I have a girlfriend in America and am looking to move over there but my CV isn't the most amazing thing in the world and I never finished secondary school so I am looking to gain skills that would endear me to the green card process.

    Is there any courses that anyone would reccomend to this effect? I am presently looking at a couple in fork lifts/warehousing and thinking about the pub line of things. Basically I don't care what line of work it is as long as it gets me over there.

    Do you plan on getting maried to the girlfriend? That would be by far the easiest way of getting a visa. In the work visa field, you need to be in a specialised, highly sought after field, such as computer programming of chemistry, usually requiring a degree. Another option may be to get your Leaving, then apply for a student visa to go to university over there if that is something that might interest you.

    Way I figure it, there are always back doors. A friend of mine got offered a job over there in an Irish pub in Boston. Bar work isn't exactly highly specialised but because of the nature of it, an Irish bar man suits it well. I'm looking to see if there are any other lower skill options besides bar work that I can pursue.

    As for the marriage option. I want to spend time living with her before I leap into that and I am against doing it just for the sake of getting a visa.

    But that still won't get you a green card. An H1B maybe, where you are a slave to a single employer or some sort of short term seasonal work visa. Greencard is usually by marriage, relation, lottery or as a follow on to an H1B. An H1B requires sponsorship and a minimum set of qualifications, including third level education and experience.

    There are no legal back doors in the US

    Your options for a green card are

    1. Marry a US citizen

    2. Do the DV lottery (google it), Ireland get about 130 greencards this way each year, and you need a 'high school' education to get one.

    3. Get sponsored for a H1B (work permit) and get a greencard through that. AFAIK you need to have a degree for a H1B and work in a specialized area, IT, science etc.
