Didn't have time for any Socs last year but I was involved with the Drama soc the previous two years and I really advise anyone interested to get involved. It can always do with fresh blood and the week in the Civic was one of the highlights of my first and second years in college!!!!

The only one I was even sort of active in last year was Netsoc and that was only on the Netsoc forums.

Dya know if there is a juggling soc?

Not sure bout the juggling soc, I vaugely remember something along those lines, but sure if there isn't then you could always look into setting one up. I would sign up, but I'm pretty sure I would be dire at the juggling, so could I just go and watch?!?!?! :D

was partially involved in GAA in first year, partially because i always had labs when matches where on. also signed up for judo last year but nothing came of it dont think there was enough people interested. would be great to get it in this year though.

I would love to do something like that and probably should have tried in first year but I'm so unbelievably unfit it would be laughable!!! Was always tempted to get into freestyle. Used to head down to the hall to watch when in first year cos Drama were upstairs in Meulruains while Freestyle were downstairs. Looks like bloody hard work though!

i think being unfit is what turns most people off joining alot of activities but really, i would say 99% of people that do start are unfit this is where training comes into it and you gradually get fit. believe me i train up to five days a week at the minute and thats coming from doing nothing for so long. but it all started with that first session. your level of interest will define your fitness in the sense that, if you like what you are doing you will train more and become fitter. well thats what i found to be true. and you could always bring someone along with you so you dont feel to awkward for those first few sessions.
anyway getting back on topic some more martial arts in the college would be great.

Haha, nah way man. I run a scout group already, definitely wouldn't have the time for setting up a soc.

Netsoc is active all year around.
wether you see us or not.

I recommend that all Computing students join Netsoc
The Forum is a usefull resource when it comes to projects.

also there is tutorials and resources that are available that wouldn't be available during the course. such as webspace and access to unix.

handy even if you just want to see what it is

and i run a scout group as well
thats a terrible excuse for anything

How do I join the netsoc, no link on the page

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 Jim_Fim

thats a very good question :-D

just noticed that there doesn't seem to be any info on joining.

normally in the first week of college there is a clubs and socs day and all the Socs put out tables and take registrations.

Would probably be easiest to wait till then to join

    will have to wait

just wondering if there is a gaming soc? i was at a DCU open day and they seem to have a very good looking game soc, but since im going here i was hoping Tallaght would have something along the same lines? does anybody know if there is one? thanks in advance.

I can't remember if there is a gaming soc or not, but if you want to you could always speak to Tim in the college, the Clubs and Socs Officer, about setting one up. I'm sure he would give you the advice and help needed. I'm sure the interest would be there. So it might be worth a try!!!:D

From what I can see the netsoc seems to be a gaming society too. I joined a few today, and might start up a RC society.

Drop them an email, or even there are a few members on here, you could pm one of them :)

signing up shouldn't be a problem if you email them.

there will be a desk out for people to pay for the gaming night so you can always join and pay at the same time.
