Just thought a thread about what clubs and societies peolpe were thinking of joining when they get to UCC would be good and didn't see one so here we are. I'm heading into first year this year and most peolpe say getting involved in clubs and societies is a great help so what are people thinking of joining. Also any people who are already involved in clubs that have info about them would be very useful. I'm thinking soccer and boxing but what about the rest of you?

Surf Club - Definitely best club in UCC. Surfing every weekend, lessons for beginners, some of the best parties in UCC, excellent trips away, and probably the best thing whenit comes to clubs its mixed so its great for meetin people.

outside surf Ive gotta recommend ultimate and karate both have great fun and don't take themselves seriosly which is important when you only want to do clubs to have some fun

apart from the "outdoor" activites are there any societies or clubs worth joining in UCC? like the philosophy, english, journalism societes? can anybody join these or do they only let certain people in?

id like to join a few clubs where i could just basically meet and talk to people with common interests.

    Good fun?!
    Tell the truth ffs!
Its an anti abortion, anti-euthanasia, anti-choice.
If you believed it was good fun why not tell them what it really is and let them make their own minds up huh?!

Your right, I wasn't very clear, But the society is just about discussion and debate of issues like abortion, euthanasia and stem research. We will be trying to cover more issues next year.
I meant by staying its fun that its not all serious political issues and we try have some less serious stuff sometimes. I don't mean mislead anyone, unfortunely I didn't get to name the society.

I think there are like four different levels of Minor teams in UCC (or at least there was) I'd imagine the bottom level wouldn't be too taxing and would be good for a laugh. I'm pretty sure they'd let you train away and you jump into a match whenever you're ready.

I'll check out the Poker Society and Boxing Club I'd say more for fitness than wanting to get knocked out though!:D

Cool razor, thanks for that! As long as they don't expect too much of me, wanted to join rugby for ages but just never got round to it

The best thing is to start a new sport...Cricket has excellent facilities. Join a political party, and be active in the S.U
