Im new to this and need advice.

I have BBS Honours Degree, studied part-time, just finished. Want to get into the area of HR? What should i do?
Working in an office the last few years, good experience but not challenging anymore. Should i do a CIPD course while looking for work now? will that make me more employable?? Im based in leitrim and all the jobs seem to be in Dublin, not too keen on moving up there!

    Any advice greatly appreciated!!

If you want to move into HR then you have to start looking for HR type jobs. Apply for HR assistant type roles or office roles with a HR element. All the courses in the world mean nothing if you haven't got any real experience.

Also, afaik, you need to work in HR to do the CIPD. If that's not true then apply for the course but start looking to change your job so you're making the gradual career move towards HR. Also, remember you'll be expected to start at the bottom and work your way up.

The university of limerick do a masters in HR. That might be a good place to start.

Are these trawls? Two BBS topics in less than a week, all from new users. I think some arts students must be tired of all the abuse or something.

Check out the CIPD website, and see what courses are available in your area. You do NOT need to be working in HR to get into these courses, although I believe to progress up-the-ladder of CIPD qualifications, it may require work experience. A CIPD certificate is looked upon very highly by people looking for HR workers, so i definitely recommend it. Courses are relatively short (part time over 6 months or about that).

HR is a difficult area to get into, however, with many people working from lower admin roles into the area, which may not suit you if you're used to higher salary/wages. To be honest, most companies that have a specific HR section are pretty big, and in Dublin. Perhaps Abbott have vacancies in Sligo?
