    Hi All

I noticed this problem over the past few days, When i go to start IE or Firefox there is a massive delay.

When i click Icon to launch the internet there is a 23 second delay from the time i click it till the time it appears, and it's not that it appears and takes 23 seconds for the content to load, I just get nothing and then it pops up.

This also happens if i'm on a site and click a link and a new popup window should appear there is the same delay

I'm running XP, my PC has more then enough power as it's built for gaming.

I've done a Spybot S&D search and anything i found i deleted but still have the problem

    Anyone got any ideas?

Is it trying to connect to a proxy that isn't there?
    Check your dns settings.
    Clear your cache etc.
You install any software just before you began to experience this?

Only suggestions i can make i'm afraid.

Not sure about the proxy thing. But i didnt change anything myself. I'm nearly sure it's on automatically detects settings, and it's not changed in all the years i've had internet access.

I take it the automatically detects settings thing is the same as my DNS settings,

I'll clear caches when i get home.

As for software, I'm not to sure. there might have been something installed but i've no way of remembering lol.

Next time you're going to open it, Ctrl+Alt+Del and click the Processes tab, then go ahead and click to open the browser and watch your processes to see if anything jumps in CPU usage.

Can you tell us more? Sounds like your on the Eircom (& resellers) upgraded to 7.6Mb with high interleaving. Can you post a traceroute to www.boards.ie from command prompt and post it here, Start => Run => CMD => tracert www.boards.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,360 ✭✭✭NeVeR

New Avg 8.0 by any chance? Linkscanner is in the new Avg 8.0 and is causing serious problems. Try disabling it.

Do you have any browser plugins or toolbars installed like Google/Yahoo/MSN/AVG/Grab Pro toolbars etc? One of our machines used to take ages to open the browser until I disabled all those.

    Ok,

    I cleared caches,
Ping for boards is approx round trip times in milli-seconds: minimum = 15ms max 26ms average 18ms , 0 packets lost. 4 sent.

I'm going to disable my toolbars and do a restart. see how everything is,

If in IE try to go to Internet options->Connections->Lan Settings->and untick Auto detect proxy settings and see if that makes any difference
