Hi,i'm trying to get more info on studying this also..i saw a course for an ISSA Personal Trainer in Portobello School which starts in October. It runs for 5 weekends, approx 1 weekend a month so it finishes in January. There is also ITEC or NCEF part time courses aswell. Does anyone know anything about this course in Portobello? Its turning out to be very difficult to get info from the college as the person you end up speaking to doesnt really know much about it.

have been looking at some courses in this area too.
found the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training.
It is at the NTC in Dorset street.
    here is the link http://www.ntc.ie/ehspt.php

Did the personal training course in School of Sport last year and found it very useful - a lot of practical elements with up to date info. I will admit it is not as popular as ncef or ntc but the school is relatively new compared to them.

If you want to become a fitness trainer you are better of going to a college like crumlin or inchicore etc.

these private colleges (like portabello) charge you anything from 1500 to 2000 for the course. if you compare this to say crumlin college's sports therapy year one - which only will cost you 200 euro for the year ( !!! ) not only do you get your fitness instructors degree but also a holistic massage degree (as well as other things)

the only down side to crumlin college etc is that it is full time and as said above i guess you are looking for part time. Just be aware that you will get ripped off majorly when doing something part-time.

It should also be noted that when you are looking to become a fitness instuctor, and if you have the choice, choose the ITEC course. ITEC is internationally reconqised (spelled right? :P ) while NCEF is of course only national.

Of course thats up to you. But if you had the choice, pick the ITEC.
