Ryanair and adding bags after booking

Sorry to add to all the Ryanair baggage queries but I'm pretty sure this information isn't on their website.

I want to book a flight without bags, but if it turns out I do need to bring one I want to know if it will cost me more to add it after I've already booked.

It says that you can make the addition online but there doesn't seem to be any way to find how much it's going to cost you unless you already have flight booking details and are about to do it, so I'm afraid that this could be another Ryanair trap.

Has anyone done this?

Yes. There is a link on the homepage to manage your booking, from there you can select to add bags. Please note though that if even one person in your group brings a bag, everyone has to check-in in person

Thanks for that. Do you know how much it costs to do it that way? Is it the same price as adding bags when you are making the booking?

I'm not sure of the cost, but it's the same as if you had booked the bags with the original booking. It's only more when you pay at the airport.

did this during the summer - added an extra bag while I was away. all you have to do is put in booking ref number and then yot manage your own booking. cost was 10 euro for the bag - think its 18 euro if you just show up on the day and want to add it then.

Thanks for that. Just booked and now I can see that it is the same price to add a bag at a later stage.

I've managed to avoid flying Ryanair before now but finally caved in. The only alternative direct flight on the route that week is twenty times the total price!

Is there a deadline on adding bags to your booking or can it be done anytime as long as you haven't checked in online yet?

think its 4 hrs b4 flight, also as ryanair in on-line check in now the whole booking doesnt hav to pay a check in fee any more as there is no airport check-in. if ur adding a bag for a return trip it cost 30euro.

That's right. The info provided earlier in the thread applied when Ryanair still had check-in desks.

I'd do it as early as you can. I was travelling a couple of weeks ago and tried to add a bag the night before but the website wasn't working properly and every time I went through the process, the website just did the 'request email of itinerary' function instead of adding the bag.

It still wasn't working the day of travel. To check-in online would have meant it would be impossible to add a bag. To check-in and add the bag at the airport would have cost €100 (€20 for the bag and €40 for each of us to use airport check-in; the website was still saying 'Please note though that if even one person in your group brings a bag, everyone has to check-in in person'). I rang the number the website gave for adding a bag. This gave me an expensive list of recorded options which eventually told me to ring another more expensive number which didn't exist. Ryanair!

Ended up having to take a half day from work to waste a couple of hours on this and then eventually repack everything so that I just had a carry-on bag.

So if I want to add a bag now, I just add it on before checking in online and it will only cost e10 each way - without the addition of fees?
There are 5 of us and we were just going to bring cabin baggage only I realised my sunblock comes in 400ml bottles:( so I will have to check in a bag.

Right, I just tried to add a bag - what a rip-off! It would cost e10 each way, plus e5 each way web check-in fee, then.....wait for it..... e5 per person each way handling fee..... which means it would cost e80 for me to check in one measly bag!!!!. So i immediately closed the window when this became apparent and a pop-up appeared with the text that I have an amount outstanding and to contact customer services!

Contacted Customer Service, which confirmed there is no mention on booking that I owe money on it and the booking has remained the same without the addition of this bag. I'll keep an eye though in case it does change!

Booked a ryanair flight last week, didnt add bags, as I had paid for flights with 3v and didnt have enough in voucher to pay for bags at the time.... Bought another voucher today and went to manage my booking to add the bags, was then charged €20 admin fee on top of €15 each way for 2 of us...so another €80 on top. Already was charged €20 for original booking....so crazy...would be much better off with aer lingus with no hidden charges...

Ah crap! I dont have enough on my card to pay for bags but now i find it will cost me an extra 20! cheers for the heads up

Actually scrap that, THEY DONT CHARGE YOU EXTRA for adding bags! Just did it.
I bought a ticket with prepaid mastercard and then went back to manage booking and added a bag for €15 (for a one way flight)

Christ on a bike - it's criminal. When are the europeans going to get this sorted once and for all so that pricing is 100% transparent.

That means no credit/debit card surcharges and an allowance for 1 checked in bag (1 checked in bag = 15kg? get real!).

This is the most expensive Ryanair flight I have ever taken.

The thread is every bit as relevant today as it was then. I used the search function to find info re. adding checked in baggage after booking. In the last few years, I've only been away for a few days and managed to do without the checked in baggage - but simply couldn't do without it this time.

The point I made is just as relevant as it was then - if not moreso now - as there should be total transparency in pricing.
