Getting Rid of a Windows Partition

    Hello all.

I'm running Tiger at the moment and I installed Windows on another partition a good while ago. I only realised yesterday that I never actually use this partition and it's a waste of 20GB tbh.

How would I got about getting rid of the partition that I don't use? Will I have to reformat and install everything again?

    Thanks.

Maybe use the opportunity to upgrade to Leopard while you're at it - just make sure you keep a backup of everything first.

In the meanwhile, one option would be to delete the windows partition and then make a new HFS one.

How would I go about that though? I can't do anything with that partition through the Disk Utility. Everything is greyed out unfortunately.

Bootcamp can do this. However the Tiger version is long expired now.

So upgrade to Leopard +1 :D

last time i used bootcamp to delete my windows partition my whole drive crapped it self and died - probably just a coincidence but make sure you BACK UP before you do anything!!

When I turn the clock back to August '07, the Boot Camp Beta doesn't appear in the Utilities.

Gah, this is annoying. It's not vital that I get rid of it by any means, but I'd rather have the 20GB actually usable.

Maybe is punishment for installing the Dark Side on my Macbook, eh?

I don't understand, where did it go? Was it ever there? I mean I assume you used Bootcamp to create the Windows partition originally.

+1 about backing up first. If you don't have a backup leave it alone it's not worth the risk.

Actually when you're doing the backup, make sure to backup the root of the drive - so select all in 'Macintosh HD'. Most of your applications won't need full reinstallations then, apart from the usual suspects like MS Office.

Actually, now that I think of it, I don't recall it ever being there. I think I had to download somethign from the Apple site to install run BootCamp. Now obviously I can't download it again.

    Super.
