HP Pavillion Tablet

    Hi all,

well, Ive been droning on about getting a laptop for a while now, I just cant make up my mind on what I want, until today in PC World, I saw something that literally lit a fire under me.

I was actually going in for something completely different (keyboard broke on parents PC) and it caught my eye.

Its the HP Pavillion TX2520EA (12.1") . Thats the larger spec of the 2 HP tablet laptops. The larger one has 2.1 GZ processor, 3 GB RAM, 160 GB harddrive all for (in PC world anyways) €1099. The other tablet has 2.0 GZ processor, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard drive for €999.

I am returning to college shortly part-time to do an MA. I will be using/need to use alot of multimedia applications for projects etc.

The guy in PC world (little indian - was nice though) when I explained I was interested in the tablet, said that it was more suitable to doctors and that he could should me something that would suit me more. He took me off to show me another laptop, but it had the same features, for basically the same price. The tablet still seemed more appealing i.e you can still use it as a normal laptop (mouse etc) but has the features of touch screen.

    So, my questions are:

    1. Has anyone any experience of them? i.e are they liable to break easy etc

    2. Is the spec good enough to be running multiple programmes?

    3. Is PC world the only place you can buy them? Are there any other providers of HP products?

    Thanks for the help.

    Dellas

The spec is grand for what you want. You'd only need to worry if you were doing 3d style stuff on it as the graphics card is more than likely pretty weak. I've never used a tablet but the only main problem I would forsee would be tapping that screen a little too hard when drunk. :D

I assume there are places online that would do them too. Don't know where.

No they're not. You can get them online, expansys and the likes have them. I dont own one myself but i have briefly had a go of one HP model, to be honest i didn't really like the whole tablet/touch screen side of things, but that's just me. I suppose you just have to ask yourself if you need the touch screen, because you are paying a premium for it.
I haven't heard any issues with reliability, they seem to be just as reliable as standard models.
What kind of programs are you going to be running?

yeah speaking of drunkness, it would seem a brainwave to pay the extra cash and go with the Accidental Damage Cover. Those touchscreens cannot be in any way cheap to replace.

    Thanks for the replies!

I think that I will get it. Anyone any other opinions?

Ill be running multimedia programmes i.e programmes for creating econtent.

Seems that PC world is the only one that has them though.
