    Hi All,

I am due to go to Orlando for a week next week, but i heard on the radio that there is a state of emergency there at the moment due to a hurricane.

All the weather reports i found on the net, say its passing, but i cant find any info on whether its safe to travel or not?

Can anyone recommend a decent site where i could get detail info on the situation.

    Thanks

Here's an even better site to keep you informed or scared. The American media can really blow it out of all proportions some times.:eek::eek:

    www.weather.com

Heading to Orlando this Sunday for a couple of weeks, can anyone with weather sensing power tell me if I'll get swamped by a few hurricanes?

    Are they bad in Orlando?

Also I've head of this interesting place called "Discovery Cove" www.discoverycove.com/ , any reviews?

    Cheers...Senan

We are going over on Sunday as well. Gustav seems to be avoiding Orlando and heading to New Orleans. Hanna is heading west to the pan handle and will probably hit the Atlantic coast wed or thurs, but it is thought that it might peter out before then.
Discovery Cove is expensive but really cool swimming with Dolphins, but you have to book it way in advance, it might be too late for you now, but they might have a cancellation....see you over there!

Flying tomorrow for 9 days, its looking ok for Orlando for a few days anyways...Depends what "Hanna" will do, but that looks likely to miss too...

Good site for weather and storm tracking is www.intellicast.com

Orlando usually misses the worst of the hurricanes/tropical storms because it is inland. As a general rule, you might get a slight pick up in winds and some rain, but as it is rainy season over there at the moment anyway, you are likely to get a period of rain in the afternoon almost every day anyway. I think it has been quite a few years since Orlando was hit properly by hurricane and in that case the parks were closed for a day and then re-opened as normal the next day. There are no guarantees of course, but I wouldn't be overly worried, the reality is that hurricane season runs from June-November and there is always a slight risk.

Ps: The American news channels and weather channels do tend to blow things out of proportion, I had to stop watching them as it used to have me lying awake at night before my holidays!
