    Hi guys,

Ive decided to make a leap and pick myself up a decent starter guitar and teach myself how to play it (shouldnt be too hard with the amount of time ive invested into other things :P)

Just looking for advice on which guitar pack i should look into getting, and from whom. Ill admit complete ignorance about the instruments themselves, was looking at a few on ebay but dont want something rubbish/ get ripped off.

    cheers in advance.

Whats the budget and would you be ok about buying online?

am fine buying online, actually i always prefer it.

I havent set a budget in mind, once the price isnt ludicrous. Id like something a little nicer than the guitar starter sets you see everywhere, they look a bit cheap and i wouldnt be sure how good they acutally are.

For just a shade over €300, you can't go far wrong with Yamaha Pacifica & Roland Microcube

yea 300 is fairly realistic, ive seen packs for like 150 but the guitars look like junk, and knowing nothing about the insruments i wouldnt wanna touch em.

which sites are the best to order off?

Stickies there name a few. Thomann I've dealt with and never had a problem. There's a Thomann stickey there too, have a looksee.

If your based in Dublin, take a trip into the shops there. The microcube you'll probably get for an extra €10 or so, you might get the Pacifica for somethin' similiar to the online price. Worth a look anyways :)

cool, lets say i set myself a price range of 300, what are the things to consider between different guitars?

The only think i want really is that i fall in love with it when i first see it first :D

If your just starting, u should probably have someone come with you who knows what they are talking about, while buying. The most important thing to keep an eye out for is the action. If you have a guitat with poor action it can be very difficult to play and can put you off playing......

are there any particular ones ya could reccomend for being easy to play then, decent quality, and that dont look like a childs toy

You can't go wrong with Deadskins suggestion of a Pacifica and a Roland Mircocube, excellent quaility for your money.

Just don't get the Pacifica in orange, it looks ghey :pac:

If you have someone with you that you really trust, then you might have a look at buying secondhand. You might get a much higher quality guitar for your money if you are lucky. Make sure that you trust them to be apatient with you and give you an honest opinion. It may seem minor, but buying an instrument is a seriously major process, as if you dont like it, you wont play it.

I'd agree with you there insinkerator, second hand will probably get you more bang for your buck. Microcubes and the Vox equivalent appear regularily on adverts, as do a plethora of more than suitable good quality 'first' guitars. Do try and have someone with experience with you though no matter where you buy from. Anyways, good luck, persevere, and most of all enjoy your new gear and new hobby.

    +1

Yep, that's the job right there, those exact two items are what i'd recommend for a learner setup.

If you're ordering from Thomann, get a cable, bag of picks and a few sets of strings while you're at it. An basic electronic tuner is a nice extra, and you might need a strap, not sure if one comes with the pacifica.

There might be a bundle on thomann with some of the above items, search yourself to see.

yea general consensus is pacifica is the way to go. 300 is grand aswell, they do a package that you can choose everything down to a strap and get a discount

I'm in the same boat as marshbaboon. so the yamaha pacifica is good but how does it compare to squires or epiphones? I'm reading a lot of guitar specs but I dont know what the important differences are...

Not mad on squires, but the tele's can be ok, epiphone sg's are alright too.
The micro cube is a great amp, im using 1.5k+ guitars and amps and stuff, and i still use my micro cube for low level playing in my room.

The first elecric guitar i bought was this http://www.musicstore.com/en_EN/EUR/Fender-Classic-60-s-Stratocaster-RW-Lake-Placid-Blue/art-GIT0000020-003
Little more expensive, but i had been playing acoustic for a year before hand.

Yummy first acoustic guitar, get it set up, i.e. make sure the action is nice one it, nd if you can, put a little lemon oil on the fret board, but justa tab bit.

Little more than 300 for the acoustic, and well, alot more for the electric, but if you wait to know you want to keep it up, thats a nice price for the fender.
