Do the pros outweigh the cons? considering that a brand new one with half the ram is a 1000 more?

if you can live with the fact that it has taken a knock.....then it represents great value.

I dont mind the fact that is has a dent or two...its the screen that worrys me, think the connection could be fixed? if not we all know those 8600GT's are dodgy

didn't see the screen issue......my bad

hmm....well depends how bad it is.... its the type of thing you won't be able to fully suss out until you open it up to have a look inside. The cable may well just be a little loose, or the connector itself may be detaching from the logic board.

It's an €800 gamble that may well cost you another couple hundred or it may be the best value you've ever picked up.

if you're going to buy second hand - i'd try buy something in better shape.

The Apple factory refurbished store has some pretty good deals from time to time - that's how I bought mine for quite a saving over the same model brand new. A lot of rumors are indicating we may see new MBPs in September and a lot of the current generation stock will then end up on the Refurb store so it's probably a good idea waiting awhile... The problem is, you're going to need a credit card to buy off Apple directly, which you indicated in your other thread that you don't have...

Not so, you can call the sales line in Cork and make your order. They'll give a reference number and you can send a cheque or bank draft and use that reference number.

I've ordered off apple.ie using this method, you don't have to use a credit card.

Of course it delays the order by a week as you allow 2 days for postage and 3 working days for a cheque to clear

Aye, as mentioned above u won't know for sure untill u take it out of the box and see for yourself but as with a llot of second hand items it's a gamble. Might as well go for it. :)
