    Hi all

I am interested in doing a part time evening course in amateur electronics - so as I can at least make an attempt at repairing my electronic goods before they get slung in the bin.

Anyone know of any evening courses in Dublin?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Kevin

I'm not aware of any evening electronics repair courses (I like to do one too), but I think it's a topic that you can teach yourself the basics from a book or two. Two books I've found useful are:

    Audel Basic Electronics (ISBN-13: 978-0764579004)
Teach Yourself Electricity and Electronics, Fourth Edition (ISBN-13: 978-0071459334)

Another idea would be to join a local amateur radio club Irish Radio Transmitters Society, as part of getting a amateur radio license you need to sit an exam which requires an understand for electronics. Many clubs offer suitable classes which cover the electronics needed for the exam, and have members with the practical knowledge/skills required when working with electronics.

Also I go to the regular Dublin 2600 meetings, and usually bring along electronic toys and projects that I've been working on, so do some of the others. It's the closest thing to a MAKE Magazine meeting that I know about in Ireland. Though we talked before about starting a new meeting at a location which would allow for actual electronic hacking.

I've done some more research and found the following course in Dublin, Hi-Tech Training - Electronics Equipment Repair I (*). I rang up to double check and the next course starts in Feb 2009 and it's possible to enrol now, total cost 800 euro.

    * Note the site text doesn't display very well in firefox.
