Major shock with Vlasic losing but Hellebaut was class. Her speed on the runway was the big thing for me as she really, really attacked the bar. Her combined event work in the winter came to fruition, now that is planning that looks at the bigger picture. Very emotional with her coach and family afterwards. Also, when she cleared I thought Chaunte Howard from the USA was hilarious, reckon she broke the vertical WR she jumped so high.

Indeed the final stages were fascinating. Hellebaut seemed uninhibited - and it does take some strength to convert that greater approach speed into height.

Vlasic is also a great athlete but tightened under pressure today.

PS - I was about to ask where the next Irish or even British 2-metre jumper is going to come from, but enough of the negativity and applaud the present class acts instead.

It was a great finish alright - thought Blanka had it in the bag initially but really was outclassed.

Outclassed is very harsh. She only had one failure up to 2.05 where the winner had a few. She failed on 2.07 fair enough but she was brilliant throughout.

Gutted for Blanka, who I think I'm in love with
