right had this laptop about 1.5 years at this stage, basically i took it with me to america and over there i was having problems using the button to switch on the laptop which i wud have to put a lot of pressure on the button to get it to turn on and boot up

i can assume the on button, wasnt connecting right. when i came back to ireland i opened it up to see what was wrong but everything seemed okay, the part was just screwed it seems.

now the laptop wont turn on at all, and i have no way of turning it on whatsoever, the laptop is in perfect working order otherwise so im unsure what to do, warrenty is out and HP asked for 300 sterling to fix it, which is unacceptable i feel.

thus would it be worth selling off for parts? if so what would be a reasonable price? what to do..?

did you check the charger to make sure it can accept 110 volts? it should be on the label, under input.

you misunderstand me, i live in ireland, i bought the laptop in ireland. i was travelling in america when power butoon began to stop functioning, i poked it one too many times i guess, the voltage has nothing to do with it.

shur even still most brick power supplys are dual voltage anaway but thats besides the point.

im really looking to see if it is worth anything to sell on for spares or to a person that has access to parts or has greater knowledge in fixing hp laptops.

as said everything in it is fine, bar it wont switch on due to a dodgy on button, with some damage from me poking it to try and get it to turn on

Hold tight, there's a HP service engineer person who frequents this very forum, he should be able to advise you.

Um, I just can't remember who it is at the moment. :o Damn old age.

yah thats the cover for it alrite, but thats not the part that i assume is faulty as its just a cover, the tiny ribbon cables coming off the mobo could be at fault and there is indeed a small microchip board under that cover with a very small button on it that is the on button, that cover is simply external and used to press on the power up contact.

i have taken apart the laptop and pressed it with my finger but it wont boot up.

so this means that this small microchip is at fault or the fault is more internal to do with the ribbon cables or further afield, and that job would require the dismantling of the entire laptop which i wouldnt have the experience with.

so im thinking would be be worth 150-200 euro to sell off for parts..?
