I was wondering if there's any way I can mute Firefox on my laptop without muting anything else? Even better would be if I could mute a single tab.

    Cheers

If you're in Vista you can open the volume mixer and mute any separate app.

if you have the Realtek driver right click it's red volume icon in the taskbar and you can get program control.

I dont know of any FF addons that really do this for tabs but just googled this https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5453 could try that.

I would like to say that you should avoid opening pages with disturbing music on the background (imho the music in the page design is ALWAYS disturbing).
Try AdBlock plug-in, that should allow you to block object on the pages from loading.
