    Places to shoot......
architecture/landscape go to city of London, Emirates stadium, Trafalger Square, Piccadilly, Leicester Square and Street photography you have the tubes/people, buses, there are also numerous parks over London.
Fairly sure you're already going to the best high street for Camera shops as you've already said.

Email them before you go over if you have something in mind, they'll give you a few bob off.

Get a coffee and some chinese food there too.

FFS If I was in London for a day wouldnt be going to see a generic flatpack stadium like the emirates, The Pomp around Buck Palace can be good to shoot, Westminster Abbey/Cathederal, St Pauls, Street Photography in SoHo, The eye, Tate Modern, Theatre Land /Chinatown after dark.

Forgot to pul :) after Emirates Comment

I've come accross this site on various Googling, http://www.graysofwestminster.co.uk/welcome.php
"Award-winning Grays of Westminster, 40 Churton Street, London SW1, is a charming period shop specialising in Nikon."

Wander around, as there's some amazing brick buildings to be found if you take the time.

The Royal Courts of Justice & Old Bailey would be another place to shoot.

Hope this doesn't happen to you....
