Fitting a jockey wheel to a trailer

Does anyone know the correct way to carry out this? The jockey wheel was purchased separately and there are pre-drilled holes in the trailer A-frame.

Should two individual bolts be used or a U-clamp?

    Thanks in advance.

The jockey wheel should have it's own clamp. I'm guessing you just have the telescopic part of the jockey wheel. You need to get the right size clamp and fit that to the trailer with two bolts. The winder on top of the jockey wheel is used to raise and lower the hitch onto the towbar, then the clamp is loosened and the whole jockey wheel is tightened up out of the way of kerbs and ramps etc.

Any pics of the trailer and jockey wheel bits that you got?

It's a bit hard to answer without seeing what you have.

Thanks for your replies. It does actually have a clamp but I'm unsure how to attach it. Common sense tells me to just use two individual bolts but I thought that a 'U' clamp would be more secure.

Here are some pictures of the trailer and jockey wheel.

The first one is of the outside of the A frame, the second is the inside of it.

I assume the jockey wheel should be attached to the outside of the A frame due to the angle of the metal on the inside?

Go with 2 bolts and washers. A U clamp could damage the screw for lifting and lowering the wheel.

I recently put a jockey wheel on my trailer. The wheel came with a special bracket/clamp

bracket/clamp bolts to trailer and the jocket wheel is clamped on....the jockey wheel can be removed easily if needed...removes any worry of it dropped down when moving...
I got the stuff here ...
