My lovely dell 22" LCD died on me after 16 months, I turn it on and it makes a fizzing noise and then turns itself off. I'm suspecting that it might have been because i recently hooked an Xbox up to its VGA port while the computer was using the DVI port, maybe switching between resolutions.

    Anyone wanna recommend a replacement?

I just got one of the 20" direct from dell for 203€ inc vat and delivery.

    http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=ie&l=en&s=dhs&cs=iedhs1&sku=78642

You can pick up the 22" for 270€

Might be worthwhile checking out www.hardwareversand.de as they have some 24" ones for 300€

I doubt it was that, I use my 24" dell monitor with my xbox 360 via compenent all the time and i've had it 3 years.

The 2408WFP is supposed to be one of the best and it's got over 200 euro off atm. I have the older 2407WFP and i'm very happy with it.

I dunno, I noticed a certain amount of flicker on it at times after i hooked up the xbox, that got markedy worse the day it went. having said that, i moved the pc setup into another room the week before it went....

We have one of the 24 inch dells in work, its pretty sweet but too expensive, tbh i might look into the prices on komplett rather than go down the dell route again.

That flickering you saw (horizontal lines?) was more likely due to the VGA signal: LCDs aren't ever 100% compatible with VGA signal which is why you see interference like that, its just signal degradation. Which is why you're really meant to use a DVI or HDMI signal with your LCD, but a VGA signal shouldn't cause permanent harm to an LCD: I've been using one for a year with no real bother.

i got the odd line but not much, the effect was more like what you see when a CRT is caught on film and the refresh rate causes it sorta pulse, it was deffo a symptom of the problem as it became very pronounced the day that it died. I was checking power sockets/cables because it almost looked like it wasnt getting enough juice

Its making a fuzzy noise now when its turned on and shuts off after a couple of seconds.

Actually I just thought of something, do Dell put 3 year parts & labour warrantys on their screens?
