Films you loved ten years ago but cringe at now

I was going to say "films you loved as a kid but cringe at now" but that would be a very long list and I think this is different as we're all different ages here so "ten years" should be enough to give anyone perspective.

Im talking about the films you thought were cool from the age of, say, 15 - 20 and look at them now ten years later and think "I once watched this over and over?!"

Two examples for me spring to mind straight away and its no surprise they're both produced by the same person :)

    Con Air

I downloaded bought this on DVD a few months ago looking forward to watching what I remembered to be a great popcorn film.

    Its not.

I think even John Malkovich is laughing his ass off in this film so much in a very knowing way ;)

Its not so much a bad film, just not the really good slightly cheesy film I once remembered.

    Bad Boys

I'll probably get slated for this but take away the banter and riffing (most of it was ad-libbed on the spot) between Smith and Lawrence and you have no film. Watch it ten years later and even that cant stop you from cringing everytime a bad guy or the woeful Téa Leoni is on the screen (and we'll say nothing about the sequel, I dont think Ive ever managed to watch it all the way through :))

I think Armageddon will get alot of mentions in this thread but it remains for me the guiltiest of film pleasures.

So - ten years on (roughly speaking, say 8 to 12 years) - what film makes you cringe? Both at the film and the fact that you once loved it?

Con Air was cringeworthy even back then, what is with Nic Cages woeful accent? Still a classic though;)

Speed - Don't think i could watch nowadays...

Independence Day - One of my favourite movies as a child and will always have a special place in my heart, but it hasn't aged well at all!!

You're right about Armageddon, tis a great movie but i feckin hate Liv Tyler and Ben Afleck.

Robocop and Batman Returns, I remember thinking Robocop was the best thing ever! I watched it after work one night with another lad and we just sat there laughing our asses off! I think it's Batman Returns with Claudia Schiffer and Jack Nicholson.. cba googling..

My Best Friends Wedding. Thought the restaurant scene was the funniest thing. It's not.

Dante's Peak. Still love it, but I now cringe at HOW MUCH I loved it!!! I even read fanfic!!!

Not one I watched over and over but at the time I though End of Days was a decent flick. Got the DVD there a while ago, for nothing I might add, and OH MY GOD  It's woeful! The Dialogue?!

"I saved somebody's life today, what did YOOOOUUUUUUUU do!"

I think instead of saying Devil's Advocate, Point Break, Speed, Bill and Teds Bogus Adventure etc, lets just say every movie starring Keanu Reeves bar the Matrix.

I thought Devil's Advocate was the bees knees. I later realised that's SOLELY because of Pacino's performance in it.

I LOVED Conair when it came out first but i have a general rule that i dont watch films from back then that i loved unless they are true classics in case they are like above not aged well. my heart couldn't take it.

In saying that my vote is going for hot shots, although about 15 years old is not as funny as used to be at all.

And IMO the devils Advocate is still brill but as said mainly cause i love AL Pacino when he's in shouty mode.

Jack Nicholson was in Batman (1989) not Batman Returns and Claudia Schiffer never featured in any one of the Batman movies.

By the way the 1989 Batman is still one of my favourite films!

I think those spoof comedies aged a lot, the likes of "Don't be a menace to south central..." I remember my sides physically splitting at this when I was a teenager and going back to watch it and being like What a load of sh1t.

EDIT: Even though I was a child watching Hot Shots, it really aged badly as well.

Definitely batman returns. Now that was a truly terrible and awful film.
The end is particularly ridiculous, when Cat bint kisses Walken with the lectrimacuteajiggy after delivering some of the hammiest dialogue ever. And then the Penguin gets floated down some ramp and off to his watery grave by a bunch of penguins who are not touching him. What a travesty of a film. An absolute crap fest. Actually virtually everything Mr. Burton ever did makes me cringe now.

    Batman.

Batman returns is great, but I can't help but be disappointed by the 1989 Batman. It's just ... boring.

I taught the usual suspects was the greatest film ever back in the day. It was on SKY MOVIES last week and just didn't seem the same at all. What a letdown:(

Get your Coat!!!!! I actually think its a better film now cause you pick up on all the subtle hints thrown into the film to make the ending seem way more planned.

Still rate it higher than any of this new Nolan stuff. *takes cover*

Keaton was the only choice for Bruce Wayne and has more charisma in his fingernail than Mr. Bale. Also Jack's performance rates as the best villain ever on screen. Re watched it only last week and it's still the best one. If even for the far superior, and a million times more iconic, Batmobile.

Stargate. I taught it was deadly. Got the DVD recently and couldn't finish it. What a load of pants.

My mate once listed Street Fighter, the live action movie with van Damme, as one of his top 5 movies ever.

All the Bond and Batman movies released in the 90s, in fact any Brosnan bond film too. Also The Rock has the cheesiest script of all time, holy carp

Back in 1998, I was singing the praises of Godzilla. The remake.
I don't think being ten years old defends that lapse of judgement.

    +1.

It's Verhoven. Tougue-in-cheek is what he does. Anyone doubting this just watch the advertisements on the TV within the movie. Or the "I'd buy that for a dollar" sketch. Watch it again with a different attitude and it's a comedy worthy of the Commando mantle. :)

I still really like Bad Boys, Point Break, Con Air, Titanic (only after the ship starts sinkin), Speed, and Godzilla :o then again im easily pleased.
I havent watched Armageddon or Independance Day in a good while so i dont know if they're cringe worthy yet.

I also used to love Mortal Kombat the movie.......:o
I really should stop typing now
