Im on the course too and this day 2 weeks will be my last day in work! yea!!!!

Do you's know many people on the course? Apparently there are 100 less on it this year than last.

Are you registering in person or just posting in your fees?

Well done everyone on getting in.

Do you mind me asking how you all secured the training contract? Was it through contacts or did you start off in a legal assistant position?

Font22: I thought you were planning to do the Finance diploma?

yeah should make it was easier knowing a few people, but as far as i know, you usually end up being friends/hanging out with whoever's in your tutorial group, so think friends are made pretty easy!!!

being abit of slacker this morning alright - but sure it's friday!

i got mine through sheer luck to be honest. i applied everywhere/sent cv's out, musta rang at least 60 law firms in dublin and the surrounding areas.
then my neighbour put me in touch with a solicitor he knows, while the solicitor couldnt give me anything he invited me in for a chat just to give me some advice. i did that, about a week later he rang me back saying that another guy he knows in a legal related office was looking for someone. i met him, had an informal chat and he offered me a job! so as i say i was really really lucky coz i'd no law experience at all. the place i work in isnt strictly a law firm but we do employ solcitors so i was able to get my training contract through them. i will have to go out on secondment though after PPC1. it's not ideal but im so greatful to have it and they're paying my fees and paying me wages too so im pretty happy!
so unfortunetly, sometimes/most times, it is a matter of contacts/who you know/massive amount of luck

Have you heard about the 'exercises' they make you do in your tutorial group? Basically whoever you sit beside on your firts day at tutorials you end up being their buddy for the day and have to tell the rest of the group a number of things about them, CRINGE!! Its def something to look forward to! lol

Getting excited now! Finishing up in work this Friday.
Johnny Utah: yup I'm doing the diploma at the same time as PPC1. Few of us from work have decided to do it. Means lectures on Wednesday evening but I think it will be worth it!

I actually seriously thought about doing a Law Society diploma this year myself, but I've decided to do a masters instead. I'll probably do the family diploma or else the commercial litigation diploma next year, so I'd be interested to hear how you get on with this year's course.

Anyway, best of luck with the diploma- at least it's another qualification to have.
