You'll have at least two weeks from the start of term before you even need to register. There's no way it'll start on the first or the second. I don't think the year even begons until the 8th of sept anyway.

You have plenty of time before it starts so just pop in the first week you're back and get everything organised then.

Tosnaíonn an Dip as Gaeilge ag tosach mí Mean Fomhair, mar a dúirt tú, ach ní bhíonn ort clárú go dtí níos déanaí sa mhí.

Ní dhearna mé an Dip as Gaeilge ach bhí cairde agam sa chúrsa agus rinne siad cluichí, srl, sa chéad seachtain.

Cuir glaoch ar Brendan, atá i gceannas. Tá sé fíor-dheas!

Hope others don't mind that I've posted in Irish!

    Go n-éirí leat sa Dip!

Last year (2007) the first lectures of the year were during the week beginning on the 24th of September. I was there so I'm completely certain about this.

Janeybabe, when did your friend do the diploma? The structure has changed in recent years as far as I know. Also, someone called Máire is principally in charge now.
Apologies for posting in English but I'm a bit tired.

She finished the Dip this year. I walked into NUIG with her at the beginning of September last year for a week of informal lectures and orientation, or whatever they did. You are right in saying that formal lectures begin at the end of September though.

Edit: Also, was Brendan not the course director last year? Meta from the Dip in English and my friends from the Dip as Gaeilge referred to him as this.

I decided rather late to take up the diploma so I only just made the first lectures. I don't know much about the unofficial stuff.

He may have been the course director. I've never heard of him though. I didn't deal with anyone high up in the organisation of the course so it's possible Máire is just the person that takes the money, gives out the receits and books and hands out the exam information.

Tá go leor botúin sa bpíosa sin janeybabe, ach tuigim gur as corcaigh thú agus mar sin tá leithscéal agat ;)
