ok - i know that this is a topic that has been discussed already but i am looking for a clear answer - can you put a dish on a balcony if it is not mounted to the wall i.e a tripod or stand of some sort - as the wall is legally not yours etc & the management co. are dead set against dishes

also products such a the digiglobe or preferably digicube seem much less obtrusive but are thay any good, especially in ireland or are they inaffective at picking up a signal here - ive read that they only get some channels but the info was not clear and it seems that it depends on location (as the info was from a french website that said something about getting only 60 sky channels)

any info or advice on this would be greatly appreciated

There is no clear answer as each building has their own policy. As you say discussed at length in other threads

if u have a balcony, facing in the correct direction.. You can clamp the dish onto the railing/wall

Hanging or clamping it on the wall is dodgy. There are laws dictating how many dishes can be attached to a building and where. On the balcony, less clear but still dodgy.

They can't object on the grounds that it is used to receive satellite signals, AFAIK this is a right protected by law. So if they have a "preferred supplier" like Brand X Sat/Cable Co. that they would rather you use (and pay for), you are within your rights to have access to the satellite signal as long as you supply the necessary equipment yourself and set it up without breaking any laws.

They can object on the grounds that it adversely affects the appearance of the apartments but all you need is one neighbour with some ugly balcony furniture to make their argument shaky.

Depending on how snarky they are, they could object to you drilling holes for wires too.

I once had a very serious problem with a customer and a management company. We the dish just sitting inside the balcony on a patio mount. But the customer was forced to remote it by the management company. So after words we were able to get the signal with the dish sitting inside the kitchen pointing out through the patio glass. But surprise surprise the customer was still forced to remote it from the patio from inside the building and not physically anchored to the building which was stated in the contrat.
But as previously stated by Tony, every building and management company is different.
